shhh...

In watching a DVD of Björk music videos that the Shangri La so ingeniously put on, I remembered how much I absolutely love her videos -- most of the time. Anyhow, in looking for the "It's oh so quiet" video, I found that the director of the up-coming Where the Wild Things Are movie, Spike Jonze, also made one of my favorite Björk videos (besides the one of her explaining the inner-workings of a television set).

Such a strange, adorable woman.

On a different note, this is something Amber D. sent me. Very random event, I'd say, to be held at Homeslice (S. Congress). Check it out anyways, it's going on now and I suppose till a bit later tonight.

Also, if you check my blog regularly, semi-regularly or even more than just one time, you'll notice I changed my banner image. I don't know, I was getting sick of the other one. I have plans for a different one but am lazy now, so this one is just filler till I whip up a new one. Like: yes or no?

Enjoy your Tuesday night.

Strictly for Lovers

If you guys remember and enjoyed the last mix Sober, of Central Booking/The Party, put out -- Satin Sheets Vol. 1 -- you'll likely enjoy this sequel. It's filled with hip hop, R&B, soul. I'm constantly saying this, but I'll repeat myself: I'm no music genius. However, I can say that I enjoy and respect Sober's style - thus, you should, too. Get it here:

I hope somebody actually utilizes this mix the proper way.

little bit

I forgot about this video till recently and thought it would make my site a ton prettier. In real life, she's that cute and crazy of a dancer.

Anyhow, since I'm here (in this window?) it'd probably be a better time than ever to announce that the Learning Secrets guys are launching a new monthly party. Here's the first flier.

I have never heard of Lanai, but experiencing new spaces sounds appetizing. Out with the boring, in with the new.

RELAX

PC: Matt Bovan

Finally, storm's over and things can settle down for a spell. I took my weekend pretty slow, got everything done, and will treat myself to something tonight. Do the same thing.

+ Stayed away from downtown
+ Went to Fashion NOW at the Domain and fell in love with Intermix
+ Went to a 4-birthday party
+ It was all alright

How was everybody else's weekends?

bits&pieces

First of all, feast your eyes on this:

I am ready to watch this movie now.

Second:

I have finally acquired the back story of the "Flashlight Party" [IE: The one tonight at the Beauty Bar] Thanks to the Austinist, I get it. I actually went to that one at Plush and it was a lot of fun -- no flashlights there. To sum it up, flashlight parties, when created, were meant to recreate the feeling of being in a nightclub without being in a nightclub, for nerds. So, out of love for irony, these Flashlight Parties opted the name from these kids and put the party in a bar, sans flashlights.

That's all.

uLOVEi Coverage

Miguel had his camera on him at all times both nights of the IHEARTCOMIX/Mad Decent parties at the old Salvation Army storefront, which they dubbed Texas Niteclub. Weird. Anyhow, here's the footage he came up with from those parties Friday and Saturday of SX:

MAD DECENT Texas Niteclub from uLOVEi on Vimeo.

Also, looks like they've started up a Flickr account and took some really good quality photos of the nighs as well. Here's that: ULOVEI.

Those were some ridiculous parties. I've gotta say Friday was better than Saturday -- not that I paid enough attention to the acts. Saturday, as I recall, was just a mess. The floor was slippery, everybody was sweaty and too drunk from the entire week of binge drinking (not me of course) and it was just chaos. I suppose to some that means a successful party.

Metropark Show @Domain

I'm honestly not huge on Metropark, or the Domain, but this doesn't sound half bad. Also, I think the Domain is hosting several fashion shows this weekend -- with free mimosas, wine and snacks, according to Amber D.

She also said that the guy from Queer Eye would be there! At the Domain that is. I don't think in Metropark.

Post-SX Lull

After scrambling around on the usual sites (which is in reality not much of a scramble) in search of something to do this post-south-by weekend, I've decided there really isn't much to do, which is totally fine. It's understandable that everybody exerted their energy to throw a million parties during Southby and are now taking a little rest from that action. Thus, this is what I dug up:

On Friday, if you crave live music, this is a viable option.
White Denim, Built By Snow, Harlem at Antones.

A DJy-dance option at Creekside.

A fashion show! This looks like it could be interesting with Secret Oktober, a steam-punk store, and Strut sharing a runway (?). Either way, it's at the Pangaea which I have yet to visit.

And on Saturday, another Flashlight Party at Beauty Bar. I still have yet to figure out what the "flashlight" part means. Take it literally, I suppose.

Did anything happen last night? I conked out before midnight in photoshoot make up. Oops.

vega on the news

CLICK HERE to see an ABC News (on Campus) interview of Vega.

(500) days of Summer

Okay, so I just found this WordPress "Off da Cuff," which really amuses me. It seems to be someone in Austin just blogging about their day-to-day activities, but they happened to get some interviews with some stars during the Film SXSW portion at the Paramount. Also, they seem to have impeccable taste -- seeing as how they like Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as much as I do (though perhaps not lust as much in the latter's case).

Let me explain this stream of Youtube videos. The first one are the 'red carpet' interviews he conducted with Zooey and Joseph. The second is an interview of beautiful Zooey Deschanel talking about her latest film, which will be released July 17 in selected theaters, (500) Days Of Summer. I am already enamored and must see this movie. The last one is the official trailer for the film. I am impatiently anticipating this film almost as much as I am the next Harry Potter.

The Famoushish

Photo Cred: Stephie, ya know

So I'm sure you've all gotten the news already, but if you go to The Famousish, they have written a "Last Note," meaning they have bowed down. I meant to write this about 12 hours ago, but stuff got really hectic. However, I am pretty sad about it, considering some of the best parties have been thrown by them. My favorite by far was the Flosstradamus party at the Black and Tan or the MSTRKRFT after-party at the FullSound loft. I suppose rumors of any future parties are nixed. I wonder if Fernando will still DJ?

I got a mention!

Rest assured, there will still be Learning Secrets to throw bad ass parties, numerous blogs I am unfamiliar with to get music from, and good people like Austin Eavesdropper, The Peen Scene and Party Ends to tell you what to do with your time.

Goodnight.

Danny Devito's Limoncello

Amber D. is always on top of it when it comes to wine. Thus, I wasn't surprised when she posted this Yelp event of Danny DeVito coming to town to push his wine, Limoncello. It's at the Twin Liquors in the Hancock Center. I may just wake up earlier on a Saturday to go to this; it's Danny Devito, c'mon.

Anyone else just love that photo in the flier?

LNP

Another couple of Austin (SX) albums have surfaced on Last Night's Party. I have found my friend's sexy picture!

Aw, sexy internet photo debut. Scandalous.

Also, Kanye did a special guest appearance at Perez's party and I totally missed out. I don't regret it, though, I've never been as fanatic about Kanye as it seems the rest of the world is at the moment.

A) I don't get the title of the album.
B) Okay, I've always thought the two guys in the first photo from the left looked a lot alike, while being totally different.

Completely unrelated. Pizza eat-a-thon? I love everything about pizza except for the calories.
Which reminds me, I am craving comfort food - macaroni and cheese, chicken noodle soup... SOON.

nonrandom-bolded-words

Apparently, Franki Chan decided to linger around Austin some more post-SxSW. According to a mass text message I got, he will be DJing tonight at Barcelona (209 6th St.) along with Toxic Avenger, Nadastrom, Tittsworth, Flufftronix, and more - and, it's free. I think I'm going to kick it in 45 minutes, as in go to sleep, so I won't be there, but maybe this time will be as crazy as the last time Franki Chan randomly decided to throw a Monday night party at the Black and Tan - which I also did not attend.

Because I don't feel like posting what I was originally going to post, here is a video of Casiokids, who I mentioned I saw at Red House Pizzeria. I hadn't realized they were not singing in English till I googled them. For Your Time:

I also feel it's necessary for me to actually recap what I did go to on my lists of events. I have a couple regrets from South by (missing out on stuff, going to certain things, etc.) but really I don't, because it really isn't a big deal and the week was just fine.

MONDAY
-The Decider Party at Mohawk
-Purevolume House
TUESDAY
-Nothing
WEDNESDAY
-After-party at Black and Tan
THURSDAY
-AA Flea Market
-Red House Pizzeria Day Shows
-Wasted time in lines (EG: Fool's Gold)
FRIDAY
-Lose Control @ Canvas
-Burleson Warehouse Party
-IHEARTCOMIX @ Salvation Army
SATURDAY
-Mess with Texas @ Waterloo Park
-Perez Hilton Party
-IHEARTCOMIX Day 2
-Starseed's foodfest

I didn't really do that much, hmm, which kind of refutes the belief that I am all over the place. Maybe I'm the only one who thought that. Also, the highlight of my SX was definitely just hanging out at the Red House, sipping on margaritas and listening to music, rather than the craziness that usually ensued after-hours, or the loud club parties during the day, or the ACL-esque outdoor music festivals. More of those next year, please.

The end of days

Today has consisted of scarfing down pizza, taking a two hour nap, eating Chinese with a friend on my floor, Facebooking profusely and a lot of lethargy. I've been casually looking for the LastNightsParty photos of my friend, who became Bronques' new muse at Perez Hilton's party Saturday. However all that has emerged is this album, which I have already spotted some friends and acquaintances in:

I had to do some careful censorship, because that's just gross. I'm not a fan of nudity on the internet for attention thing. Not me, no way.

Where are these from?

Kind of glad it's all over, haven't gotten enough sleep lately. Also, letting the body revert back to equilibrium.

A list of bands

that I saw during SXSW 2009:
- Ladyhawke
- Au Revoir Simone
- Casiokids
- The Indigo Girls (surprise guest at Perez's party)
- Margaret Cho (who I'm not a fan of)
- Japanther
- Abe Vigoda (ehh)
- Ringo Deathstarr
- HEARTSREVOLUTION
- Steedlord
- A bunch of IHEARTCOMIX and other DJs I can't recall or I don't care about - no offense, it's just hard to keep up.

So, really not that many. I was aiming to see Passion Pit, Asobi Seksu, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Telepathe for sure, and never made it out to any of their millions of shows. My bad.

Casiokids, by the way, are a cute little band. Saw them/heard them for the first time at Red House Pizzeria on Thursday, and everybody loved them.

How did everyone else's week go?

Polite in Public

photos from Canvas last night are up:

It's funny to think that some of those things is something people just do at parties.

Because of how sick of these (particular cliche) things, I didn't post any of the photos that featured +ironic nerd glasses that people wear 24/7, +girls doing sexual-esque things for photobooths, +bright colored frames for sunglasses (particularly wayfarers), +photobooth make-out, +the ironic "making fun of traditional portraits" photo, and some more. That's just my annoying culture rant for the week.

SXSW: Saturday

Things are wrapping up.

About last night: I don't know why I forgot that the IHEARTCOMIX party was last night at the Salvation Army. I ended up there and all, but it was only by luck upon coincidences and a $12 taxi, ugh.

Anyway, I was so discombobulated about last night, hopefully today goes much smoother.

Here's a last minute flier.

Here's a tentative schedule for the day and my day (italicized):

SXSW: Friday

My compiled list of things tonight that probably won't suck.

I won't die if I don't see her today, but I'll cross my fingers.

11AM - 8PM @2207 Eastside Dr.
+ Backyard bash with Dallas DJs and Vega and Ocelot
1PM - 8PM @Club Primos (1700 E 6th St.)
+ Totally Badical with Learning Secrets, Ringo Deathstarr
2PM - 7PM @Complete Clothing
+ Tittsworth, Bird Peterson
4:30PM - 3AM @Burleson Warehouse
+ Scott Jawson presents a bunch of good shit
6PM - 8PM @West Tent (Bush Square Park)
+ NZ Party with Ladyhawke, etc.
2:30AM - late @Barcelona (6th St.)
+ "Let it Out" party with Dubbel Dutch

Italicized are the only ones I'll attempt to go to today. Last night was a bit of a fail. If anyone was at that Fool's Gold party, you saw how ridiculous the line was. How was everyone else's Thursdays? Mine was just crazy.

Apparently, you can only go to Purevolume with a red VIP laminate now?

Thursday, March 19, 2009

AA Flea Market

is officially open today.

11am-8pm
through Saturday
4th and San Jacinto

PS. Please don't do what she's doing, it's not cute.

SXSW: Thursday

I am getting sick of that all-caps shit, mostly because it's obnoxious and makes me sound excited about my titles when in reality I am not. I just did it because I though it looked more aesthetically pleasing with the black bar across.

If my sisters and I had been born goddesses we could've ended up like these girls.

Anyway,
I'm sure everyone had a big, awesome first music day of Sx. I didn't, I meant to- but didn't. Thus, today (Thursday) is going to be different. Here is what I like, as chronologically as I could get it:
11:30AM - 6PM @Radio Room (508 E. 6th)
+ ft. Au Revoir Simone, Passion Pit, etc.
noon - 8 PM @Malverde (2nd & Guadalupe)
+ All That Sparkles ft. Learning Secrets, Telepathe, The Pains
4:45PM @Red House Pizzeria (1917 Manor)
+ Au Revoir Simone plays at that time
7PM - 2AM @Beauty Bar
+ IHEARTCOMIX Showcase with all the usuals
Midnight - 5AM @Palm Door (401 Sabine St.)
+ Fool's Gold & Scion ft. A-trak, Kid Sister, Little Boots, etc.
3AM - Late @Music Gym (E. 5th & I-35)
+ Some Austin DJs

(Italicized are the things I think I'll even attempt to go to)

PS/Stole this idea from Famousish. Good way to keep myself organized.
PPS/The late-night at Black and Tan was pretty great, it's too bad that joint's going to be closed down by the end of the month.

Undocumented DIM MAK

Something else worth checking out on Saturday.

LA ZONA ROSA TONIGHT

Apparently Prince Klassen will be DJing, along with Franki Chan, and Voxtrot will be playing. I think. Other than that I have no real information - cost, etc. If you are more informed, you should probably tell me what's up.

Edit: Oh, it's free.

This is pretty funny.

BEAUTIFUL, DIRTY, RICH

Lady Gaga's Beautiful Dirty Rich music video is cute. That's the wrong word. I just like her wardrobe. I know it's fake money, but it makes me cringe when she puts it in her mouth like that; money is filthy. I love how Lady Gaga's always so theatric, but I know I will soon tire of her -- especially seeing her with her crazy hair bows walking around public in a leotard. As for now, I'll indulge.

Plus, that guy she's sitting with on the couch is a fox.

EVERYTHING IS ON

+Yeah, so I know mostly everybody has been partying hard since Thursday night, but the official shows and music part of SXSW is yet to come. These are two things happening soon (as in tonight and tomorrow night) that are guaranteed to be great.

1) The Decider Party, live music and that guy from Flight of the Conchords, Eugene Mirman, and
2) South by South DEATH, with some good Austin bands and otherwise.

[click on each flier to get to the information/higher res photo]

Go to there.

After Wednesday, I probably won't have a spare second to blog, but we'll see -- I usually don't as it is (kind of).

LATE MONDAY NIGHT:

There is this. I definitely tried to go get my laminate for Purevolume a minute after the stand closed, so be sure to get there before midnight. They're handing them out (to those who RSVP'd on purevolume.com) from 6 p.m. - midnight. So, after you're done doing whatever it is you do on Mondays, get out hang around 2nd and Trinity.

ONE NIGHT IN AUSTIN

I am liking the "One night in Paris" reference.

I suppose there's a chance they won't allow you to go? So, I guess make your RSVP interesting. I'm not sure how that works, but I guess Perez either wants you to go or not.

YES, PLEASE!

Yes, Scott's party/show/thing is going to be legendary. I can already feel it. Don't worry about the location; the directions are on the flier.

He got so many big names on the bill.

5:15 Clip’d Beaks (LA)
6:00 A Faulty Chromosome (Austin)

GD

Just a few more before I forget:

Full line up is on here. Flosstradamus will be there Saturday.

I don't know. Tickets at Waterloo may be out by now, but I figured it was worth a repost for those interested. Oops, apparently - according to Ultra8201 - "In order to get in you must pick up your free tickets on Monday, March 16th at Waterloo Records at 10am."

Looks like they're hosting a ton of bands there, find all the information here.

A Wednesday night party.

Too many parties.
