GIVEAWAY: Maroon 5 tickets and CDs

The lovely Jo Vos recently contacted me to do a giveaway for a show that I am very excited to announce...

ONE PAIR of tickets (valued at $150) to the Maroon 5 show October 22, 2010 @ The Woodlands Pavilion in Houston -AND- two signed copies of Maroon 5's latest album "Hands All Over," which was released Sept 21.

I am psyched to be able to pass on an opportunity like this to my readers and any other fans out there. I mean, Maroon 5 is HUGE. Who doesn't remember jamming out to "This Love" on the radio? Or ladies and gay friends, who doesn't remember lusting after Adam Levine? I mean, check out how foxy he is looking in the video for the hit single "Misery" from the new album.

Here are the rules:
1. You must leave a comment on this page.
2. Tell me about your favorite "secret" celebrity crush who people often disagree with! (EX: My co-worker and I were just rambling on about how hot Adam Levine is, which lead us to talk about Adrien Brody, who often causes hott-ness discourse among the masses. We polled ourselves though, and 100% of us thought Adrien Brody is HOT!)
3. Leave your first & last name and a working e-mail acct for me to contact you.
4. This contest is ending FRIDAY, so get your comments in on time! The tickets will be mailed to you, so I will be inquiring about an address. Tickets should arrive in 7-10 days after my giveaway ends.

Seriously, are you kidding me? So handsome.

ACL Weekend Breakdown

Austin City Limits weekend is upon us. Thank goodness this year it doesn't fall on the same day as a big ole football game, as it did last year. However, according to the Daily Texan, 65,000 are estimated to be attending the festival this weekend. Austin is going to be nuts this weekend. Below, I have outlined a comprehensive list of everything that is going on this weekend, well not everything but highlights of my favorite events - ones that have my endorsement. Try to RSVP to the RSVP events (more easily accessible in my right-hand calendar column) if they are still open. Hope to bump into you all this weekend.

losing steam/MARDI GRAS WKND

I'm totally losing steam on this looking for things to do thing. Sometimes, I just like to wait for things to come to me and go with whatever other people do. Alas, I stuck myself with this job, so I will diligently do my "job" as expected with few complaints.

Anyway, last night was enough fun for me for a while, but I suppose the weekend must be savored. Lykke Li was cuter/more perfect than I could have ever imagined, Wild Life 2 went well - a lot of people showed and Ryan, I take it, had an awesome birthday. That was a good Thursday night for Austin. By the way Trevor Ray put up the photos from The Parish already if you'd like to go check those out. On with the weekend.
FRIDAY:

I want to say my friend told me his band is also playing there tonight. I might be making that up.

SATURDAY:

Here is a 5 minute promotional mix that Go Go Garcia made for the Sandwiches party. Ought to give you an idea of what to expect of the party besides the possibility of free sandwiches -- which is what I've been assuming about the party this entire time.
Download/Listen here.

(I believe Wax Lounge is in San Antonio, but in case you're in the area)

SUNDAY:

Finally, something Mardi Gras related. I don't think I've celebrated Mardi Gras in my life except maybe being given some beads at some point sans flashing. Either way, it seems like if you're going to Mardi Gras it up, this is probably the right (only) way to do it.

NYC NIGHTLIFE

As promised to the East Austinites, I had planned on posting about VDRK and The Culture of Me for a while now, just never quite got to it. VDRK is a promoter/DJ from New York City, who has an awesome blog with some pretty fresh music. For those of you who do not know of VDRK yet and like to do the music blog deal, it'd be a good one to frequent. He's got a great eye for aesthetics -- which is something that matters to (maybe only) me. You can download the mixes here: VDRK.

The Culture of Me is similarly awesome seeming. I suppose they are like an adjoined Famousish and Outwithme of NYC. I wasn't sure as to what it was all about, but it seems like they really cover every spectrum of the nightlife in their part of town. Reminds me of Kiss Atlanta (ATL) or We Shot JR (Dallas).

Hopefully sometime soon, I'll be able to visit. Sooner than later, too.

VEGA IN OKLAHOMA

Austin's very own Vega is going to be playing in Norman, Oklahoma tonight. Of course, that is of no concern to most of us here in Texas, but for those of you who may be in our northern neighboring state, don't miss out on this:

I know that's old,

SCREWSTON

Do people still call it that?

I don't usually report on Houston happenings, but I did sort of recently... so if any Houstonites are reading, here are two events in the next couple of days. Friends of mine are DJing at both, so looks like even you can party with Austin. That was cheesy.

Rich's in Houston?

I don't suppose people are still talking about their New Year's Eves, but I just found this video via The Famousish and had to share. I haven't ever been to Houston and never really planned on it, but judging by this video it seems like it'd be a lot of fun actually. I don't know how downtown was in Austin (I had to stay out of it for my own sanity) but this place doesn't seem so bad. Also, I spotted DJ friend Joshua Distance in the vid, so I suppose the music in the background is all him.

So much girl-on-girl, yeesh. Let's go to Houston sometime, someone.

MEGAPOST: Tri-City Update

FRIDAY:
Something to do tonight, Austin.

I am definitely going to be back home by New Year's Eve, but I feel like everybody is still gone. Who'll be in Austin for New Year's? Please, give me a show of hands.

Denton and Dallas are a lot more happening tonight it seems:

This one is at Hailey's in Denton. Good club, good DJs. Vega will be there, what more need I say?

At Zubar (Lower Greenville)in Dallas.

Finally the time for this party has arrived. I'm excited -- I assure you I will be there tonight, dressed festively.

SATURDAY:

Maybe it costs $3, but Glasnost is DJ Richard.Gear approved. Go to their Myspace and preview it for yourself.
Or:
Glasnost - Static
Looks like Go Go Garcia is also DJing that night. Alternative flier?

In Dallas, this sounds like it'd be pretty legit. I really like Keith P's sound. Here's a little featurette I wrote about him after seeing him spin before Kill The Noise over the summer: !!!

Alright. Try to decipher this messy, messy post and tell me what you're doing. Enjoy yourself, after all the holidays are over and you should be stress free 'til after New Years. At least, that's my policy.

What's going on?

Austin, I don't know what to tell you. However, if you've migrated elsewhere for the holidays (in Texas that is) it looks like there are a few things to go to this Christmas that sound pretty great.

HOUSTON:
I don't really know Houston very well or anything, but maybe there is at least one person from Houston reading this blog. I'm not sure what Chances on Westheimer is like, but this event I just found out about for tonight sounds really cool. They've got Kid Indie DJ-ing and the kid I recently mentioned, Joshua Distance.

The residents, GRRRL PARTS, have a blog you can go to HERE. I guess check it out if you wanna keep up with their Houston events. Maybe someday, I'll go and pay that city a visit -- never really been before (even though I lived there for three years of my pre-adolescent life).

DALLAS:
So tonight, if you roll on over to the Fallout Lounge on Exposition, you aren't necessarily guaranteed, but you've got a chance to hear the up-and-up on this killer party going on tomorrow night at an acquaintance of mine's apartment (house?). Cory from Ocelot (ATX) is going to be DJing. Big fucking deal, and I'm not being sarcastic.

They'll be playing with up-and-coming Dallas DJs (resident to Fallout Lounge) Billingham Defense System.

RIO GRANDE VALLEY:

Mitchell, OUTWITHME, is putting this on. He DJs under the alias FaggyFresh. He's also having Brion (B-the-Beat) DJ. Also have never been to the Valley, but if you're down there this Holiday break, I suggest you go check out Club Montrose tonight.

Enjoy your respective holidays,
Tiffany

ATL UPDATES & Future changes

MJQ

MJQ was surprisingly fun, but I think it was more the configuration of the club rather than the music. Andy Rourke of the Smiths was DJing and played a lot of hits, but not necessarily danceable stuff.

A/S/L has been canceled til further notice, not that anybody quite cares.

Eastern Bloc

This was just last night - supposedly Atlanta's "most ambitious nightlife project to date."
This was the configuration of the three club crawl:

The Graveyard Tavern - Electro, Bmore, House, Dubstep, New Wave

Cenci - 2 Floors of Hip-Hop, Disco, Funk, and Soul

The Glenwood - Rock, Indie, Brit-Pop, Mod, and Soul + Outdoor Patio

I only hung around the Graveyard, because I didn't see any point in going to the other two and listening to funk or brit-pop. It was a really good time, the DJing (Preston Craig) was not genius but acceptable - more electro and new wave than house at all.

This is what is on for tonight:

&

THEM (Gravytrain!!!) at The Drunken Unicorn! Pimp.

ALSO- I have been thinking of changing up this dull site. Right now it's just me blogging about shit no one cares about or they might but no one knows about or can relate because it's just the stuff I do. I'm going to bring in some new perspective and hopefully spice the blog up real soon. Look for changes within the next month. I'm talkin' - my return to Austin and return to GOOD blogging.

FUCKYESSS & Afterlife

I went to Fuck Yesss! on thursday night here in ATL and it was pretty awesome. The DJs weren't bad but it was a shame Le Castle Vania (who normally puts the monthly parties on) wasn't there that night. Oh well, on with it.

Friday night - &rew, Guillermo and I went to a house party, then to Mary's - ATL's finest gay bar, and then to get fries at Landmark and back home to crash. A little less eventful but still awesome.

Now on for tonight. We are going to Afterlife at the Masquerade. Should be fun.
