Behold, Sarah Silverman?

Something I thought may interest the good readers of this blog. Apparently Sarah Silverman will be coming to Book People in Austin to promote her book, The Bedwetter, April 28. Check out the event on Do512.

This cover is slightly problematic to me. It is weird to see Sarah Silverman in a fashionable military jacket, even if it is a couple seasons late. I suppose she probably does care about fashion in her spare time, it's just such a contrast from her pigtails and baggy pants in "I'm F*cking Matt Damon."

I have never been a big fan of Silverman, especially since the "chink" incident -- c'mon comedians, you can come up with better jokes than racial slurs...

However, I know everybody likes an opportunity to meet a celebrity. Plus, I know there are a lot of Silverman fans out there. I may be the only one who doesn't love her that I know of. I for one just like to hear about events at a book store rather than a bar or club every once in a while. I mean, I read a book for pleasure for the first time in what feels like centuries last week and remembered the joys of literacy.

Why I love Madonna

My friend Kristine recently shared this with me, and I felt compelled to share it with the rest of you. From her to-be-released (Sept 29) album, Celebration, is Madonna's single she recorded a music video featuring die-hard fans from Milan and Barcelona. I love her outfit and hair. I know they did a lot of make up and editing, probably, but damn she looks good for her age.

P.WOLF

I am about to go to Patrick Wolf and I am so happy! Also, only $18 and at Antone's, totally worth it. Let's hope I don't run into Peaches Geldof or Cory Kennedy. After all, it is a Nylon event. If it's not sold out, go. Or maybe I will see you at country night.

Love.

Stars Aligned

Yes, Lady Gaga and Marilyn Manson making west-side / "WOW" faces. I know I am posting this a little late, and I did read about it when it was a little more fresh but forgot to post. Anyway, this is an interesting little collaboration between the two with Lady Gaga's latest chart-topper "Love Game." It is a bit of a remix, but Manson lends his vocals about halfway through. Have I mentioned how much I love him? I will also admit to loving Lady Gaga, too, though she is kind of more of a guilty pleasure, unlike Manson who I simply worship. What a man. Follow this link to listen to the song on Perez Hilton (a site I admittedly never read).

(500) days of Summer

Okay, so I just found this WordPress "Off da Cuff," which really amuses me. It seems to be someone in Austin just blogging about their day-to-day activities, but they happened to get some interviews with some stars during the Film SXSW portion at the Paramount. Also, they seem to have impeccable taste -- seeing as how they like Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as much as I do (though perhaps not lust as much in the latter's case).

Let me explain this stream of Youtube videos. The first one are the 'red carpet' interviews he conducted with Zooey and Joseph. The second is an interview of beautiful Zooey Deschanel talking about her latest film, which will be released July 17 in selected theaters, (500) Days Of Summer. I am already enamored and must see this movie. The last one is the official trailer for the film. I am impatiently anticipating this film almost as much as I am the next Harry Potter.

Danny Devito's Limoncello

Amber D. is always on top of it when it comes to wine. Thus, I wasn't surprised when she posted this Yelp event of Danny DeVito coming to town to push his wine, Limoncello. It's at the Twin Liquors in the Hancock Center. I may just wake up earlier on a Saturday to go to this; it's Danny Devito, c'mon.

Anyone else just love that photo in the flier?

NOTORIOUS

B.I.G.

Who else is excited for this to come out?

Also, did anybody else hear about this other movie, The Wackness, that Mary-Kate is in? I did recently. It doesn't look very good, but here's the trailer:

FINALLY

Okay, so I'm not huge on celebrity gossip or anything, (and that is not what this blog is about) but I do admit to being obsessed with Marilyn Manson. I am happy to say that him, 39, and Evan Rachel Wood, 21, broke it off officially sometime last week. I admire her acting, but I've never been a huge fan of her. And when one of your idols dates someone who is just okay and your age, it's a kick in the face.

Who would want to date a clone of their ex-wife anyhow?
It's kind of eerie.

She's got my vote!

The video gets really annoying after a while, but it's pretty hilarious.

On a serious note, go vote now. Early. So you don't have to stand in line. Or don't. It's your choice.

National Icons in Austin

I'll admit to being annoyed by Margaret Cho's stand-up comedy most of the time, but I have to hand it to her for changing the way Asian-Americans are represented in the entertainment industry and in the public eye. She really shook things up and was a pioneer for the Asian woman, I'd say.

Another great figure is Maya Angelou who wrote the autobiographical I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, an incredibly acclaimed novel. It's pretty amazing that she is going to be coming to UT to speak for free.

Maybe some of you aren't interested in these kinds of things at all and are annoyed with me posting them, when you'd rather come here to find a party, and that's okay, but hey - this is kind of a big deal, too, right?

BUT -- if either of these people do interest you, get one of your UT friends, or a stranger, to get you some tickets to these events. It's worth the effort I'd say. Tickets are available now at the Student Union (on Guad)

Calabria 2007

Everybody I know knows this is my favorite song. BUT, I just now discovered the music video for it. I know this song is old and maybe some of you are sick of it, but I'll always love it and go crazy when I hear somebody play it at a party. The video is awesome and Natasja, rest in peace, looks beautiful in it.

I hope all of you play this at full volume and dance like crazy.

YELLE Interview

Miguel showed me this interview he had with Yelle after the show. She looks so nice/cute. Thought I'd share, even though you probably saw it on Famousish by now.

Envy Magazine

So, this month's issue of Envy Magazine - based in Dallas/Sponsored the Boat Party, etc. - is out! Look for the October issue at any Envy Mag stand around campus, or elsewhere. I think you can pick one up at Alamo Drafthouse or Waterloo Records, or you can just look at an e-version: here.

Photos featured in the back party picture section include the Cave Party and the Boat Party. Spot me and my sister in the Boat Party section? NOT a very good picture of me but still. Look at how good Bill Murray looks. Props to Jonathan Zizzo for taking all the pictures.

La nuit dernière

Yelle, last night, was phenomenal! The opening acts were pretty great, too, but of course nothing compares to Yelle's first performance in Austin, Texas and the jazzercizing with Super Sonic Soul Squad. I know I was probably not the only one who pretty much danced non-stop and made a fool of myself (well, maybe not everyone made a fool of themselves).

Almost everybody was there. You may have spotted Rachel of Austin Style Watch in her fierce bodysuit, or Tolly of That Austin Girl (who I had the pleasure of meeting) in her turquoise skirt, Annie Ray just hanging out without the camera or Fernando of The Famousish changing shirts, David aka Richard.Gear or - of course - OutWithMe Mitchell snapping a bunch of pictures of Yelle.

At the end, Yelle just hung around her merch booth and met people, signed merchandise, took pictures. She was really sweet and seemed incredibly down to earth. With the help of my friend Amber, we got a photograph taken with her!

[L to R: Me, Yelle, Amber aka Amelie, Kristine]

It looks like the apocalypse is happening behind us but we are all enjoying ourselves. That is why I like this picture. And isn't that KIND OF true to life anyways? (Not to be a complete cynic or anything)

I also got her autograph! I'll probably photograph that later. I'm still recuperating from the night.

I leave you with this video of Fatal Bazooka feat. Yelle:

Parle à ma main. She's that cute!

Thank you!

#1 BIRTHDAY PARTY LAST NIGHT!

To everybody who threw my birthday party, DJ'd my birthday party, or came to my birthday party THANK YOU! (except that one asshole who shoved me then asked if I was turning 19)

The turn out was great, the music was great, and I at least thought there was an abundance of drinks and love to go around. Overall, a great success!

Highlights included: Fernando getting a COP to tell me happy birthday, Blake and company going and getting a second keg just in time before closing, all the birthday hugs and kisses

Special thanks to CATATAK (namely Blake, Taylor and Ernie - who got a fine for the ruckus), Brion aka B-the-Beat, TheFamousish/Doneski, Luke aka Simian Gibbons, Kristine, Mike, Michael, Kathleen, Chris C, anybody who pitched in for kegs...

#2 A LOOK BACK: Cave Party

[more images by Eugene Hsu]
The Longhorn Cavern has, throughout time, been occupied by extinct animals during the Ice Age, Comanche Indians centuries ago, Confederates during the Civil War and allegedly Sam Bass, an infamous Texas train robber. Last Thursday night, it housed Fantastic Fest’s closing party in dedication to the film, City of Ember, as well as hundreds of partygoers, notable Austin DJs and an open bar. A star of the movie, Bill Murray, also stopped by to join the festivities.

Fantastic Fest joined forces with Austin party host The Famousish to put on this rare event – a full blown party in a real, historical cave. According to their webpage, Longhorn Cavern State Park puts on many different events and rents the cave out for private events, but this was the first time for many to go to a dance party in a cave. “I loved the cave party. I mean, dancing to good music with good people is fun enough – but in a cave? It blew my mind,” said Bethany Burke.

City of Ember is a film adaptation of the 2003 novel The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau. The plot of the movie follows two children who live in an underground city only meant to be inhabited for 200 years. As the lights in Ember begin to go out, the children go on a journey to find a way to save their city.

Thursday night, the setting of the film was emulated through the aesthetic of the cave, which had several flights of stone stairs leading down to a massive underground lair of stalagmites and stalactites. The music boomed from the DJ booth and echoed off the many walls of the cavern. Sixty-three miles away from the city, Austin partiers danced and socialized with big names such as Tim League, the founder of Alamo Drafthouse, Gil Kenan, director of City of Ember, Harry Knowles, distinguished film critic, and, of course, Bill Murray.

Despite the extraordinary location, Bill Murray was the main attraction of the night. As soon as he entered the mouth of the cave, masses of photographers, videographers and fans rushed toward him. During his stroll through the cave, he greeted guests who swarmed around him, shook hands, solicited hugs, smiled for photographs and signed autographs. Murray was allegedly spotted at other locations in Austin this weekend, such as the Arkansas v. Texas football game and music venue Emo’s.

The festive night was a closer to this year’s Fantastic Fest, a weeklong film festival dedicated to specific genres of film such as science-fiction, horror, crime and Asian. Most party guests finally boarded buses at 4 a.m. to arrive in Austin by dawn. However, this does not daunt James Morua. “I’m ready for round two,” he said.

#3 SAUL WILLIAMS REVIEW
was amazing. He was so insightful and the show was like a dance party meets poetry slam meets rap concert. Amazing. He was dressed really cool too, with teal feathers in his hair. I've been a huge fan for a long time and he solidified this this Thursday. He is definitely an inspiration for my writing and a great poet/lyricist/performer. What a guy, if you missed - you missed out.

Opening for him was Ringo Deathstarr, a popular local Austin band, that I'm a sure you all know about. It was actually a first time for me to see them and I really liked their sound. On their site it says they are "Ambient/Shoegaze/Pop" but I likened their noise/grunge with Sonic Youth and the guitar and vocals with an indie Yo La Tengo-esque sound. Two bands I love, so I give them five stars.

Phew, long post.

Attn: Important Announcements

#1:
It's official BILL MURRAY is going to be out at the Cave Party tonight! And we all know he knows how to party. Remember kids, be at Alamo between 930-10 p.m. to load onto a bus and go.

#2:

I am excited to share this exciting piece of deluxe information with the rest of Austin. Saul Williams is coming to perform on Oct. 2.

" The Texas Union Student Events Center's Music and Entertainment Committee
will host a performance by Saul Williams, dynamic musician and poet, in the
Texas Union Ballroom at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008."
However,
"Admission to the Saul Williams event is free for the UT community. A pass
is required for admission but does not guarantee admission to the event. UT
students, faculty and staff may obtain 2 passes from the Texas Union Student
Events Center Events & Info Desk (UNB 4.300) by presenting their UT ID. Pass
distribution will begin on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 8:00 AM (pass
distribution: weekdays 8AM-5PM). This event is open to UT students, faculty,
and staff."

So, find somebody from UT to bring you or buy you passes. I had an obsession to Saul William's poetry a while back - only having read She and , said the shotgun to the head. But I don't need to listen to all of his hip-hop, music, and new poetry in order to know he is amazing. For those who don't know about him (WIKIPEDIA). He's worked with Trent Reznor of NIN and played with many others.

#3: For those who didn't jump on the bandwagon and buy tickets fast enough, remember the alternatives tonight at Black&Tan and Beauty Bar. They should be a lot of fun, too, just not in a dank cave.

#4: From the same place as previously, on the old Diesel on the Drag, I spotted a model search that is going on. I'll let you in on it once I know more information.
