200: NEW MIXES

PC: Terry Richardson - Lily Donaldson
It's my 200th post! I guess I'm workin' a lot faster than I had been beforehand. Especially because I feel like very recently I had my 100th post. So, a thank you to everybody who keeps up with this little bloglet. I'll call it a blog-let because it's not really a full grown blog yet. By no means is it up to Famousish, East Austinite, Austin Eavesdropper, Party Ends level. However, it's a hobby and I intend to continue.

For you are two mixes that I deem worthy of reposting. Their owners Prepmode and Redsean, of Dallas, are two very talented DJs. I'm sure you will enjoy them.

"MIXED NUTS" - A Dance Mix
mixed by redsean

&

5 on it - Prepmode

Here's a little something Prepmode said in explanation for his mix:
+"So, just like old folks, I believe that music should be given respect. We celebrate people who retire with parties, but what do we do for the music that we retire from our Vinyl/CD collections, or top playlists, or whatever your specific preference is?? I decided that I would celebrate tracks that I no longer foresee myself playing at gigs by presenting the “5 ON IT” Mix Series. Each time around, I will select 5 tracks that have put a smile on my face along with many others." So, I guess, expect to see many more of these.

Today, you can go to Waterloo for an in-store performance by Ben Kweller @ 5PM.

And I leave you with a new favorite song of mine. I'm excited that I can possibly see them perform this SXSW (so soon!)

Joie de vivre,

DALLASITES AT S!F!

Tomorrow is Richard Gear's Sounds Fun at Black and Tan as per usual. This week, Dallas's Redsean and Schwa will be guest DJing. Both are really cool dudes with good ears for music. Sean is also a friend, so of course I'll be there. Redsean is a part of the DJ/party throwing trio Disqo Disco as well as Sydney Confirm. They put on their own Tuesday weekly at the Fall Out Lounge in Dallas, so I suppose he's skipping out on his own for ours. So go, don't disappoint Dallas.

Can you guess which one is Redsean?

BIKES AND BIKES AND BIKES

This is for all the bicyclephiles out there. There are enough of them in Austin who'd want to go to this premiere of Macaframa at the Angelika in Dallas, I'm sure, especially with the free admission.

DALLAS: Warehouse Party

Okay, so I usually only report on Dallas shows and parties when I'm actually IN Dallas, but this is something I'm sure you won't want to miss out on. My friends Ariel and Milan are putting on a warehouse-roller-skating-live band-BYOB party this Saturday. I assure you it will be a blast.

Here is all of the information you need to know. If you are from the DFW area and go, say "hi" to the boys for me and let me know how it went.

VCR: Vega

Well all right.

Last night, I went to the VEGA show in Dallas, at The Cavern to be exact. The place was packed -- no doubt everybody came to see Alan (the man behind Vega) perform live -- regardless of the $5 cover for 21+ and the $8 for 18+. To say the least, Vega did amazingly. His backup, the drummer formally of Gazelles, a Denton band, and guitarist Ronald (??), and himself had the crowd going like it was a concert at Gypsy Ballroom, back before Deep Ellum of Dallas became completely altered and lost it's live music appeal. OR, to explain it in Austin terms, really kind of like a Scion Events live concert at Beauty Bar.

Vega is signed under the blossoming label, Vogue College Records, which as far as I know has only Vega signed but seem to be doing well for themselves. I also heard some inside information that I'm not sure I'm allowed to quite say yet, but it's probably okay to say that Vega is working on a new song and hopefully I'll be able to post it on my site once it's ready.

By the way the party was put on by Dance Your Face Off, who I just found out has a pretty nice little blog.

Changes tonight

Well, Teenage Wolf just told me you do have to pay the $4 cover at Music Gym, so don't go unprepared. I guess "donation" really means "mandatory."

Also, here's a little something something in Dallas I totally forgot about. The FARAH that I recently spoke of in a previous post, from the label Italians do it Better will be performing at Fallout Lounge off Exposition in Dallas tonight!

Last Dallas Post

, because eventually we all have to leave Dallas.

Vega's first live show in Dallas is this Saturday at the Cavern. For once the bar is allowing 18+ in, but for the hefty fee of $8. Dallas sure likes to rip people off. I guess $8 is better than $10 is better than not having shit to do on a Saturday.

and as always, Central Booking (The Party) has got their thing going at Zubar on Lower Greenville:

Au Revoir Dallas, after this weekend I will be scarce.

Thursday in Texas

I am fully aware of how seriously lacking my blogposts have been lately. That should change, however, once I return home.

MEGAPOST: Tri-City Update

FRIDAY:
Something to do tonight, Austin.

I am definitely going to be back home by New Year's Eve, but I feel like everybody is still gone. Who'll be in Austin for New Year's? Please, give me a show of hands.

Denton and Dallas are a lot more happening tonight it seems:

This one is at Hailey's in Denton. Good club, good DJs. Vega will be there, what more need I say?

At Zubar (Lower Greenville)in Dallas.

Finally the time for this party has arrived. I'm excited -- I assure you I will be there tonight, dressed festively.

SATURDAY:

Maybe it costs $3, but Glasnost is DJ Richard.Gear approved. Go to their Myspace and preview it for yourself.
Or:
Glasnost - Static
Looks like Go Go Garcia is also DJing that night. Alternative flier?

In Dallas, this sounds like it'd be pretty legit. I really like Keith P's sound. Here's a little featurette I wrote about him after seeing him spin before Kill The Noise over the summer: !!!

Alright. Try to decipher this messy, messy post and tell me what you're doing. Enjoy yourself, after all the holidays are over and you should be stress free 'til after New Years. At least, that's my policy.

What's going on?

Austin, I don't know what to tell you. However, if you've migrated elsewhere for the holidays (in Texas that is) it looks like there are a few things to go to this Christmas that sound pretty great.

HOUSTON:
I don't really know Houston very well or anything, but maybe there is at least one person from Houston reading this blog. I'm not sure what Chances on Westheimer is like, but this event I just found out about for tonight sounds really cool. They've got Kid Indie DJ-ing and the kid I recently mentioned, Joshua Distance.

The residents, GRRRL PARTS, have a blog you can go to HERE. I guess check it out if you wanna keep up with their Houston events. Maybe someday, I'll go and pay that city a visit -- never really been before (even though I lived there for three years of my pre-adolescent life).

DALLAS:
So tonight, if you roll on over to the Fallout Lounge on Exposition, you aren't necessarily guaranteed, but you've got a chance to hear the up-and-up on this killer party going on tomorrow night at an acquaintance of mine's apartment (house?). Cory from Ocelot (ATX) is going to be DJing. Big fucking deal, and I'm not being sarcastic.

They'll be playing with up-and-coming Dallas DJs (resident to Fallout Lounge) Billingham Defense System.

RIO GRANDE VALLEY:

Mitchell, OUTWITHME, is putting this on. He DJs under the alias FaggyFresh. He's also having Brion (B-the-Beat) DJ. Also have never been to the Valley, but if you're down there this Holiday break, I suggest you go check out Club Montrose tonight.

Enjoy your respective holidays,
Tiffany

Farah does it better

So, here in Dallas, I recently met this girl, Farah. Her band, named after her, is Dallas-based and adorable. They're a part of the Italians Do It Better label, along with Glass Candy - who I decided I like recently. I may not be the best music critic, but Farah's pretty damn good in by book. She says she's played at Beauty Bar a couple of times; let me know how that was if you had a chance to catch any of her live performances. Listen to Law of Life on the band's Myspace. I wish I had an MP3 download I could put on the blog.

You can buy the label's After Dark LP or CD on this site: IDIB Store.
Sounds like a good deal to me, maybe that should've gone on my wishlist. See you soon Austin,

Richard.Gear, in Dallas

I was really happy to hear that one of my favorites of Austin, Richard.Gear, is going to be in Dallas this break. (Click on his name if you didn't read my feature on him from last month). He's playing at The Cavern tonight! I have actually never been but am hopefully checking it out.

Come if you are in Dallas! If not, I honestly haven't a clue what's going on in Austin tonight.

Bonsoir,
Tiffany

UPDATE: (Oops, totally lied. I forgot I keep getting texts from Don about his/Orion's joint birthday party at the Black and Tan) Go to that! Here's the flier:

Happy Birthday, boys!

disintegrating.

First, sorry for not posting yesterday. I would've told you about Fancy That at Whisky Bar and Sounds!Fun! at Black and Tan. I went to the latter; Ian Orth and Markus with a K were the guests this time around.

I'll actually be gone for a little while for the break/holidays. I'll try to keep the blog updated meanwhile though.

But for now I want to share with you another photographic find. I only recently stumbled upon the photography of Jess Williamson. I think she's friends with some people I know but I don't think I have ever met her. Here are a few samples of her work. The rest can be found on her Flickr or her Web site.

I love everything about her work.
Enjoy,
Tiffany Diane

Not in Austin Weekend

Dallas, I love you, but you're bringing me down.

I'm posting from Dallas this weekend. Hope you guys all had fulfilling Thanksgivings and some time off work/school. Thank goodness for that time off, I was working nonstop before I caught this break. It's time to figure out what's going on in Austin this weekend, even if I can't necessarily be there.

I'll probably be going to one of these Dallas events:

FRIDAY:
DO NOT go to the S.Austin party (off William Cannon) It was really last night and I'm a dumb ass.

Richard.Gear will be DJing at Plush, too, at about 10-11. You guys know I'm and avid Gear supporter.

SATURDAY:

What the hell else is going on Saturday?

Just some things to come...

I will be posting about this weekend a little earlier because it is an exciting one for me. Just a little sneak peek: AustinIsBurning is teaming up with Catatak and ATX Fixed Gear and you know that will be an explosive party. Just you wait.

But tonight in Dallas:

At the Granada! with CB boys Sober & Select!

Unofficial afterparty it up at Fallout Lounge with Disqo Disco

Friday, September 12, 2008

Ike is coming!

So many things are getting canceled this weekend, but I'm pretty positive these parties are all still going to happen for sure --

FRIDAY
Never been to the Elysium, but this seems like it'd be a lot of fun.

I don't know this girl, but she's really cute and the party's at Creekside, so it should be fun.

SATURDAY

Afterparty with Famousish.

En Dallas

If you are in/from Dallas, go to this. First of all, free happy meals? Awesome. Keith P, also Awesome. And Hamburger Headaches? Not so awesome, but worth it.

Last night...
was the Heartsrevolution and Midnight Juggernauts free show. I was lucky enough to go, and it was waaaay badass. Anyone who's a genius was there, of course. I mean - it was just the right combination of music, and free, and dancing. The afterparty at Music Gym was also rad. I had never been there before, but it's a really cool location and set up.

Here's that flier, though it's too late to go if you didn't.
To everyone who went to BB last night, :D.

PS - does anyone have any pictures of me from last night? I just want one because I was wearing my favorite vintage dress and have no pictures of it. Thanks!
