HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

This week since Halloween is on a Friday, there is an abundance of things to do over the weekend - and Thursday is included in that statement.

THURSDAY:

FRIDAY:

BeautyBar Halloween Party and after party. I believe it's being suggested you buy presale tickets to this on this site but if you have commitment issues, maybe it won't be sold out and you can show up to pay at the door.

Option for those not of age. Once again my friend Max Ferrari is DJ-ing, maybe I'll catch him for once.

OR, if you want to house party it up on Halloween there's this "Psycho Dance Party" at 4602 Avenue C. Don't know anything about it, but who cares?

SATURDAY:

Learning Secrets!

This is all I'm aware of for now. I strongly suggest that this weekend, you go out on Thursday night and dance (in various costumes) non-stop till Sunday morning. Put your work off. I am 100% sure I will.

SOUNDS!FUN!

Menos Richard Gear. BUT -- apparently if you go in, bring your IPOD and request something be played by Doneski, he will play it. I do not have an MP3 Player, so please go in and request Calabria for me, or Fergie - London Bridge. Truuuust me.

Have a wonderful Tuesday.

She's got my vote!

The video gets really annoying after a while, but it's pretty hilarious.

On a serious note, go vote now. Early. So you don't have to stand in line. Or don't. It's your choice.

Halloweek

This is going to be a good week, because I am mandating it has to be. Last week was weak (with a serious exception for Thursday night - AKA MSTRKRFT night)

It is Halloween week/weekend coming up, so bring on the ghosts, parties, and tooth decay. Here is something to get you ready. Two of the best, fake party scenes via music video/TV show promotion:

[Warning: NSFW or 13-year-olds]
Skins preview with The Gossip "Standing in the way of Control"

Lady Gaga "Just Dance"

Let's recreate this [Note: not condoning public sex or drug use. I just mean Have Fun]

What are you going to be for Halloween?

Designer Thugs

How was everybody's weekends?
I missed Austin even though it was a short sabbatical.

Here are the pictures I promised of the free Designer Drugs tank I got last week. I love the cut of it. (Can't really wear it alone, but still)

[Buy one on DESIGNERDRUGSMYSPACE]

Pardon the vanity, I just thought the tank top was really cool. Plus, I wanted to help sell the shirt, which by the way is just $35 -shipping included. Plus, I'm a shallow bitch, ya'll.
Enjoy your Saturday!
-Tiffany

PS- Being in Dallas gives me the craziest dreams.

Going to Dallas [UPDATE]

, but Austin goes on without me. Here's some things going on this weekend.
FRIDAY:
This looks really cool.

This week my friend Christopher (AKA Max Ferrari AKA Christopher Love AKA Kitsch Club) is DJing. He has really great style, so I am sure he'll be great Friday.

SATURDAY:

I didn't even know about this one till Famousish posted it. Seems really cool - it's at Studio 1906 which is a cool location. I've only been there for "The Boxing Club" show last spring - or the Mustache Party? I'm not even sure what it was called, but it was the first Famousish event I'd ever gone to. Start doing stuff there again, please!

Polysics w/ Jaguar Love, Black Gold (Emo's lounge)

Doors Open: 9pm
Show Starts: 10pm
Stage: annex
I love Polysics; they're just so much fun to see live. I've seen them twice and they've always been great. One time I met them and took a photo with them. Go see them while it's a smaller show and you can probably meet them, get their autograph and stuff. Check out their music here: Myspace

ATTN: Death Set Fans

Check out uLOVEi's latest video interview, this time with The Death Set

The Death Set Interview from uLOVEi on Vimeo.

Also: Be sure to start RSVP-ing to yet another great, free Scion party -- this time with The Count and Sinden Soundsystem and Austin's Markus with a K (who'll be DJing Black and Tan tonight!)

RSVP

MSTRKRFT NIGHT

Hey,if you can't just shell out $30 for a show (like myself) then go to this instead.

$30 will get you really far at B&T.

For your enjoyment, an old but good video:

I love this Junior Senior song, and those compilation music videos.

Case of the Reds

This week seems to be filled with things to do during the week, which is common for Austin - but this time everything seems really cool/worth going to.

LastNight: Girl Talk (was sold out)
Tonight:
I saw the Death Set open up for Bonde Do Role, they were pretty great. Seems like it should be a good show - at Red 7?

This week apparently Richard Gear's in NYC, so Markus with a K is taking over Sounds Fun and Bird Peterson and Go Go Garcia are DJ'ing.

Thursday:

BUY TICKETS TO MSTRKRFT

It's about $30 (a bit pricey) but 18+.

P.S. a friendly reminder: getting threats through your voice mail is always cool.

New Kids on the Block

*kid1:
I don't know if you have discovered this site, yet, or rather checked The Famousish lately, but Learning Secrets has joined the blogosphere and I found a pleasant little surprise waiting for me.

Go check out the blog! Coming up are two parties that I'll probably remind you of later.

Oct25- The Fixed 4 Year Anniversary Freak Out with Tiga, WhoMadeWho, Ian Orth, etc. at Studio B.
Nov1- Learning Secrets Classic Edition at Beauty Bar.

Hope I have a chance to check at least one of these out, considering I'm going to Dallas next weekend.

*kid2:

u L O V E i

I have already posted some of Miguel's videos in previous posts to show you a taste of Austin, but if you go to his site, he has so much more to show on his site: photos, videos, art, blogs. You probably see a lot of him around town, carrying his camera.

He also posted my link on his Links List!

I love bloglove.

TingTings Tonight!

Got this from Miguel's site: uLovei.com

If you can, don't miss this. I know I am going to be holed away all day making up for this weekend -- which was ridiculous by the way.

Michael from DD and I didn't end up going thrifting, but I did go with friends and it was amazing. I'll discuss this later. I met Michael, again, last night and he was an awesome guy. I got a free steroid tank, which you can buy on their Myspace (http://myspace.com/designerdrugsclubmusic)

I'll post photos of mine later/when it's bleached clean. The party was crazy, and the after-party debacle was ridiculous (sorry to anyone caught in that mess) but it all worked out in the end -- I'd like to think.

Black and Tan was great this whole weekend from Thursday's HomeWerk party to Designer Drugs.

-TD
PS. Remember if you found some keys last night, let me know!

LOST KEYS

Hey there! If anyone was at the house party on Olive & Branch and found some keys, they possibly belong to my friend Chris.

If you've got 'em, call him at: 281.935.0309

Hope everybody had as much fun last night.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

forgot to say:

tonight:

portugal the man w/ Earl greyhound / Wintersleep (outside)

Doors Open: 8pm
Show Starts: 9pm
Stage: outside

and I think I'm meeting up with Michael from Designer Drugs to go thrifting soon.
See you guys tonight! I'll try and update if I find any other parties going on tonight!

keep busy this weekend

TONIGHT:

Peligrosa is every 3rd Friday at Creekside, and I'm not sure if Orion always spins, but he is - so that shouldn't be shabby.
Miguel's take on Peligrosa via Vimeo.

Peligrosa from uLOVEi on Vimeo.

Black and Tan has been getting a lot more business lately. Austin's Best New Bar is seriously bringing in a new, younger crowd it appears.

SATURDAY:

I think this is the only major thing going on Saturday night. I don't think it's too late to RSVP! Here! Do it!
After-Party here:

RSVP? I'm not sure... I have heard news of a house party Saturday night and will get back to you on details about that one. Simian Gibbons DJs!

Of course all the while, Maker Faire is going on this weekend!

Click on the image for the Webpage for more info.

Best Of Austin 2008

has been released finally on the Austin Chronicle website.

Looks like Black and Tan got an award for best new bar,
tied with the gay cowboy bar next door.
Austinist got best blog.
Who is Toddy B, though? You'd think I'd recognize the name of Austin's best DJ...

THIRSTAY OPTIONS

OPTION #1:
This is a UT Radio event, but everybody is welcome because it's right on the main mall, no IDs necessary. Prince Klassen of The Party is awesome, so that should be cool. But I am weary about this Frat Boy step thing. How very UT.

EyePlug, the visuals for the night, looks really cool. You can preview *their stuff on their Myspace or YouTube or Blog. They made that KVRX skull for one, and looks loads better than your average party aestheticist. [I'd liken them to DFW's TommyBoy.]

OPTION#2:

Catch Doneski play with my blog friends at Homewerk. I definitely suggest this one, especially after the new special drink prices at Black and Tan. Should be a good way to bring in the weekend.

OPTION#3:

Never even been in Plush but Markus with a K is good.

National Icons in Austin

I'll admit to being annoyed by Margaret Cho's stand-up comedy most of the time, but I have to hand it to her for changing the way Asian-Americans are represented in the entertainment industry and in the public eye. She really shook things up and was a pioneer for the Asian woman, I'd say.

Another great figure is Maya Angelou who wrote the autobiographical I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, an incredibly acclaimed novel. It's pretty amazing that she is going to be coming to UT to speak for free.

Maybe some of you aren't interested in these kinds of things at all and are annoyed with me posting them, when you'd rather come here to find a party, and that's okay, but hey - this is kind of a big deal, too, right?

BUT -- if either of these people do interest you, get one of your UT friends, or a stranger, to get you some tickets to these events. It's worth the effort I'd say. Tickets are available now at the Student Union (on Guad)

Treasure City Recap

Models: Maggie and Clara, Photos: Ann Harkness
[to view all photos go to this Flickr]

Treasure City's fashion show was packed on Friday. There was literally not enough room for everybody who showed up to see the runway. I was teetering on top of a fold out chair that I suspected to break in half any second just to see the pieces from the back. I loved a lot of the collections, however I wish I could figure out exactly which ones those were... a little pamphlet would be a nice addition to next years show.

A list of all of the featured designers plus the names of their lines is now on the Treasure City Thrift Fashion Show website.

Name Collection
Aaron Torres “Phar Out”
Amelia Railey “Double-Speak”
Annie Alonzi
Arianna Jones “Fifty-Seven Ninety-One”
Belen Ruiz “Hippie Ethnic”
Chia “Blood by Chia and Javi”
Cory Skuldt
Dani Johnson “Claynelah"
Emily Vinson “Worksheets”
Estella Starr
Gaga
Jen Delk “Spinsta”
Jinny Carder “Tailored Chic”
Kari Perkins “Trashion Line: Detritus"
Kate Worthington “Katrina”
Kelsi Page "CiCi"
Leslie Torbett “Estelle Clothing”
Liza Eyster
Mallory Garmon
Melissa Long “Melissa Long Wearables”
Natalie Ford
Noel Wells “Uni-Circles”
Rachel Fields “Chris Isaak Mends his Broken Heart”
Thunderpuppet
Tina Sparkles

Good job to all the designers, Treasure City, Mike Litt, and the pretty models. Maybe this is something you'd like to get involved in next year. I know I'm considering it (not that I have any skills whatsoever that qualify me).

Calabria 2007

Everybody I know knows this is my favorite song. BUT, I just now discovered the music video for it. I know this song is old and maybe some of you are sick of it, but I'll always love it and go crazy when I hear somebody play it at a party. The video is awesome and Natasja, rest in peace, looks beautiful in it.

I hope all of you play this at full volume and dance like crazy.

Sundays are for rest

Lazy Sundays are always good days to catch up on rest, school, and work. But I strongly suggest once you get all of that done, you go choose your own adventure.

Safe by Rebecca Turbow, Music by HeartsRevolution

2 things I love, Rebecca Turbows fashion (as I always have since I discovered her years ago) and this song CYOA, by the way I don't know if I mentioned it before but HeartRevolution was amazing when they came to Beauty Bar with Midnight Juggernauts.

Take some time out today to appreciate good music, good clothing, good eats, and good people.

YELLE Interview

Miguel showed me this interview he had with Yelle after the show. She looks so nice/cute. Thought I'd share, even though you probably saw it on Famousish by now.

Yelle Interview from uLOVEi on Vimeo.

Envy Magazine

So, this month's issue of Envy Magazine - based in Dallas/Sponsored the Boat Party, etc. - is out! Look for the October issue at any Envy Mag stand around campus, or elsewhere. I think you can pick one up at Alamo Drafthouse or Waterloo Records, or you can just look at an e-version: here.

Photos featured in the back party picture section include the Cave Party and the Boat Party. Spot me and my sister in the Boat Party section? NOT a very good picture of me but still. Look at how good Bill Murray looks. Props to Jonathan Zizzo for taking all the pictures.

TGIF

FRIDAY:
Obviously don't forget about the Treasure City Thrift Recycled Fashion Show, which starts at 7 sharp. I can't miss this one! Maybe I'll make-believe it's New York Fashion Week and come in a mink and sigh and sit in the front row and envy the models.

Last Milk ever? Or just last one with Abominatron?
Either one, MILK is always fun.

I'm sure anybody would love to see Benny Benassi. I don't know about the location or the price though. I hear it's $20, I'm sure VIP is worse.

Or if you fancy a gay bar, go to Cockpit and see Mitchell.

Also worthy of note: Luke (Simian Gibbons) and Blake Brandon are playing at Troubador [503 E 6th St.] - starting up a new thing - tonight. It's free but 21+. Two good DJs and really nice guys, so you should give it a shot.

SATURDAY:
Anyone who remembers the parties last year at 17th and Salinas probably remembers they were always a lot of fun, or even if you don't remember them - they were still a lot of fun. Well, apparently now they've moved to a new location (2002 E. 16th) and will be throwing a house party on Saturday. It's a birthday party, so be nice. I'm always down for a good house party.

Let's see if I can scour anything else up for club-goers later.
Au Revoir, Tiffany.
