Shop Vintage
Looks like 1st Thursday is approaching again. I have yet to roam around SoCo on a first Thursday, so maybe I will give a shot this week. Looks like Feathers is having another sale, as well as on July 4.

ALSO, word is Flashback Vintage is experiencing some of this economic strife and needs our help. Everything is 40-60% off right now.

400
400th post. I guess this is not a very monumental number - not quite 500. Here's what I've got for tonight.

Here's that Fader event. I am sure it'll be super crowded, given that they will be giving away free Red Stripe. Hope you all RSVP'd, I am sure it is closed already.

Saturday:

There was so much Michael Jackson going on downtown last night. As soon as it was confirmed, I was at Polvo's and the restaurant immediately began playing hits. I still don't really believe MJ is dead. I don't know if it is considered exploitation or not, but there are so many parties celebrating his life / mourning his death this weekend. I know Alamo had a sing-a-long in his name late last night. Anyway, hope everyone is coping just fine -- especially those of you who were planning on seeing him this summer (sad).

I love you.
Michael Jackson, "King of Pop" is dead at 50.
So sad.
Sorry, Mitchell.

Wednesday: Ringo

I don't know anything about the other bands, but Ringo Deathstarr is playing at Beauty Bar. I gave Scorpion Child a little listen, probably just because the name intrigued me, and they have a new classic rock sound - Wolfmother-esque - in more than one way. The flier also says there is recorded music by Learning Secrets. What does that mean?
+ I also don't know if I ever posted anything about this, but friends of mine have recently been playing Stereo Gallery at Club Mixx (the 18+ club). Maybe this will be the new Black and Tan. I think Simian Gibbons has returned from NY to play this week.

FADER & Mohawk

I know the RSVP for this has been closed for a while now, and I totally neglected to do so, but for those of you going, it's tonight! I think they were advertising that there will be free drinks, too. Sounds like an eventful Tuesday, anyway. I will just have to deal.

However, those of you who want to go see local bands Wine and Revolution (picture above, doesn't that guy kind of resemble Josh Hartnett?) and International Waters, who both just touched back down to Austin from their tour, you have a chance to tonight at Mohawk. Tickets will only be sold at the door, $8. Anyhow, here's more information at Mohawk's site.
Good day,
Td.

Stars Aligned

Yes, Lady Gaga and Marilyn Manson making west-side / "WOW" faces. I know I am posting this a little late, and I did read about it when it was a little more fresh but forgot to post. Anyway, this is an interesting little collaboration between the two with Lady Gaga's latest chart-topper "Love Game." It is a bit of a remix, but Manson lends his vocals about halfway through. Have I mentioned how much I love him? I will also admit to loving Lady Gaga, too, though she is kind of more of a guilty pleasure, unlike Manson who I simply worship. What a man. Follow this link to listen to the song on Perez Hilton (a site I admittedly never read).

Funsaver Series pt.2
Here's my second batch of photos from this summer. I don't know if anybody has noticed but I did make a little "funsaver" tag for these. That way, people who just want to look at eye candy, AKA my attractive friends and other random images from my adventuring around town, they can just click on that rather than wading through the millions of posts. Well, almost 400 according to the count on my Dashboard. Also, I put up the Search Engine widget, which you can see clearly to the right. That should also make things easier for you. I guess if you wanna find something specific like every entry I ever used the word "fuck" in, you can find it via that search bar. Cool, right?

Sorry for not posting this weekend.
Instead of doing that, I was taking insomniac roadtrips to my hometown, sleeping on a couch and having the most epic lucid dream in my life. I will post something of more value soon enough, compadres. See you in some hours, Austin.
Love you,
TD

Friday Concerts
Dear Blog,
Yours Truly,
Tiffany
There comes a time in most of my days, weeks, months where I just get extremely tired -- physically and mentally. Anyway, enough of the lethargy. Besides good ol' Wild Life tonight at Barcelona, I am not quite sure what is going on. However, it looks like there are a couple of good shows tomorrow. First of all, Telepathe will be playing Emo's for $10. St. Vincent (who I honestly never full got into) is playing Mohawk for $13. Before, they are playing at Waterloo Records for a free in-store. You know what, Ultra8201 is really good at what they do, so I suggest you check their blog if you want to be more up-to-date with what is going on in the live music arena. They have even posted photos from the recent Grizzly Bear and Santigold concerts. Seriously, I still don't get this transformation from "o" to "i." Why? Explain this to me if you know. Photos from my latest funsaver soon. I never did find that one I lost at the White White Lights show at the Parish - sad.
Yours Truly,
Tiffany

Tuesdays: Sounds Fit
So, Richard Gear's Sounds Fun is no more. Over the year, it had moved from the Mohawk to the Black and Tan (RIP) to Canvas Bar and Gallery. Now, it has teamed up with Fit at Firehouse Lounge to create "Sounds Fit!" Here is the video flier.
I went to the first one of these actually, with Guns and Bombs. It was fun.

SSSH Birthday
Sorry for not posting this weekend. I mean, I am sure everybody survived, but yeah - who knows, maybe there are people who were distraught at my lack of posting. Probably not, but still. Anyway, hope the weekend was good for everybody. It isn't over yet, though. My favorite night of the month has arrived. Second Sunday Sockhop is here! And it's the third birthday of. Can't believe it's been going on for so long.

Fuck you like a billionaire
It's tonight! I am so excited for the Peaches, Drums of Death show at Emo's tonight. I have been anticipating this for some time now.
If you did not get tickets, Drums of Death's after-hours set at Barcelona will be a worthy event to attend, no question. It's $2! And with Learning Secrets.

Update:

Really? Why did I not know this till now?

My face is in Rare!
So, one day I was at Waterloo Records when I came upon this issue of Rare. I knew it wasn't the May issue, which was blind embossed and white, so I checked it out. It was the June issue, which I knew that my face was going to appear in. Editor Carrie Crowe and Tolly Moseley, a writer for Rare slash Austin Eavesdropper, had set up this Blogger Editorial for this Living issue.
I really like the way the picture turned out. Shooting those was a lot of fun. Annie Ray was the photographer. Yeah, I'm blowing purple glitter out of a martini glass.
It was also too late that I realized I had actually started this blog in 2008. It really hasn't been that long. I also included a few of the little "blogs" I wrote for the article. I mentioned some of my favorite Austin things. Not included in here, but in the magazine, are Richard Gear, End of an Ear Records and Outwithme. By the way, 50-word limits are HARD, even for mini-blogs.

By the way, I still haven't tried any of these hamburgers. Let's go.
Go pick your own copy up. Or wait till they scan them in for the online version.

+ Colin Bailey, Drums of Death

Thursday, Peaches and Drums of Death will be playing a sold out show at Emo's here in Austin. Whether or not you are familiar with Colin Bailey, also known as Drums of Death, I am sure he will blow your mind. Hailing from Scotland, Bailey has been dabbling a variety of music genres, from rock bands to DJing dance music.
I met Bailey at the Greco-Roman after-party during Austin City Limits weekend last year, where he was DJing with Hot Chip. Since then, Drums of Death has been producing all sorts of original tracks, which you can find on his Myspace page, remixing Peaches and touring Europe and North America. He was nice enough to allow me to conduct a little interview with him for the blog.
I am sure you get that you look like Heath Ledger's Joker a lot, but what did you really draw inspiration from for your look?
Drums of Death: The look comes from growing up with comic books, reading about Haitian voodoo and Mexican Day Of The Dead and the desire to have some presence which captures people's attention and which they themselves project a meaning on to.
TD: Besides the look, I notice that you have a very three-dimensional artist persona, what is it exactly you are going for?
DOD: Drums Of Death is an extension of Colin. It's just a hyper-real, super version of Colin. So the songs talk about the little things, the personal and emotional but on a larger scale.
TD: What are you working on these days besides tearing it up with Peaches?
DOD: I'm finishing my debut album, due to drop in September this year. Joe from Hot Chip's on a track and I have worked with a lot of other friends on some things. Most of these won't be out till after the album is done. The album is my first ever and very personal. It sounds big though, and I'm building a live band to take the bass to your face directly.
TD: Do you already have band members in mind or will you be holding auditions? What instruments will be included?
DOD: I have band sorted. When I get back to UK after this tour, we will be hitting rehearsals hard.
TD: What is your relationship like with Peaches? What do you guys do in your spare time on the road?
DOD: Talk about musicals, haha. We kind of do. Talk about Betty Davis and weird disco, punk rock and techno. Lots and lots of rock n' roll. The tour in Europe was great but every show ended with us playing mad rock tunes on this lavish tour bus till all hours. The gigs were just the warm ups for the parties on the bus. As I write this, we're in the US and now there's less time for hanging out. She's doing interviews, as am I, and I have to finish my album. So we're all busy, but it's great.
TD: What are your and Peaches' favorite musical(s)?
DOD: Jesus Christ Superstar, the original recording with Ian Gillan from Deep Purple as Jesus. It's proper scuzzy rock n' roll.
TD: What is the best thing about the states? How does it compare to London?
DOD: You Americans like putting cheese on those corn chips. I've also never seen so many sugary drinks in my life. The food here's okay. I'm trying to cut down on wheats and cheeses and those are the two big American food groups, haha. London's no better, don't get me wrong. I spent two weeks in Europe before here, and the food in France, Belgium and Germany's great. We played in a club called AB in Brussels, Belgium, and it has the best food I'd ever eaten on tour. The chef is well-known and has even written a book containing recipes certain famous bands like the most.
TD: How many times have you been in Austin or Texas? What do you look forward to in coming back here?
DOD: Austin, once with Hot Chip last year for a party with Mr. Ian Orth. It was totally awesome, if a little short-lived, due to intervention by Austin's finest ;)

Au Revoir Simone
They are back in Austin to play a show at The Mohawk with The Antlers and Oh No! Oh My! Tickets are $10 online, and probably $12 at the door.

I watched these lovely ladies play at Red House Pizzeria during South By and they were great.
Seriously though, don't they make you cringe at how cute they are? If only.

Some of you are going to Animal Collective tonight. I am not. To be honest, I have never really listened to them. If I have, I do not remember. I have only heard good things though, so for those of you going - have fun.
friday
Looks like Richard Henry and Orion are doing something at Creekside tonight. Fridays are Creekside are always pretty decent I'd say, from Peligrosa to A Bailar Cabron. All good stuff.

saturday
Then, there is Milk 9 tomorrow. This one is supposed to be super special, because the Milk crew is bringing in Cobra Krames from NYC. I feel like I have seen him about a million times since I moved to Austin. I am sure this will be a fun event. I haven't been to Beauty in forever.

Has anyone seen...
a blue disposable camera? I lost mine at The Parish last night (Thursday) and it just pains me. Please let me know if you have any information that will reunite me with it.
I have a bad feeling I'll never find it.

Hallelujah
I am happy because I do not have class tomorrow, which means I can go to the Parish show (check Ultra8201 for more details) guilt-free and enjoy my Thursday night.
Last night, Emo's was packed for Passion Pit. Check out photos on Ultra8201. I didn't quite catch the first act, Cale Parks, and barely saw Harlem Shakes, who seemed good. Passion Pit was great though. It was weird to hear that distinguishable voice live. They played about half of the set from the new album, Manners, and half from the Chunk of Change EP. "Sleepyhead" was great live, but I was sad they didn't play "Cuddle Fuddle." They encored with "The Reeling." I didn't realize that was going to be their big hit. Anyway, it was a sweaty, crowded show. I wish it had been fall or wintertime. That would've been the perfect weather for that show.

Besides the Parish show, which I am obviously endorsing, I have a few other suggestions for your night.

Love how Amy Winehouse has landed on the Sobscene flier. Looks like the photo was taken in the midst of her transition between coke and crack.
