FREE JACK

If you weren't already convinced to go to the Learning Secret's party tonight at Beauty Bar, there's going to be free Jack Daniels from 9:30 - 10:30. Nothing wrong with that.

SXSW (UPDATE)

I have this problem with timeliness, mainly because I feel like SXSW and Spring Break are ages away, but here are some parties you need to (if you want to) RSVP to. Thanks to Da Miing for posting so much helpful information.
[Click on each image or text for the site to RSVP]

MMM, GARAGE SALE

I love garage sales.
I love shopping.
I love clothing.
I love cheap stuff.
I love shiny, new things.
I love vintage clothes.

Totally worth it to go to this:
Magnolia Vintage Garage Sale
7 a.m. Saturday February 28th
6607 Argentia Rd. @ Allendale
Austin, TX 78757

I'm not sure what exactly will be in stock for Saturday but here are a couple favorites from their site:

These photos and these models are so pretty. I really applaud online vintage boutique, and IRL boutique, owners because there is definitely an art to running one of these stores. Also, a lot of time and effort.

I guess nobody had an answer to my previous question. Blogging is so weird, I feel like I am constantly addressing an invisible audience. I can imagine that maybe there are 2-3 readers out there that I could be telling all these things to, or I can just talk to myself. I'm content with either.

I'm pretty lackluster at the moment -- though some would probably argue I always am -- and it doesn't help that tonight (Thursday) was kind of just whatever. I'll admit to not checking out downtown, but not every night needs to be spent downtown. Miguel said the opening night of Malverde (bad green?) was pretty great. That's some new bar on 2nd and Guadalupe, which I can't really attest to yet. Hmm... let's see what's up for this weekend. Here are the only suggestions I can make.

Friday:

Let's assume Creeksizzle is just Creekside in Snoop Dogg terminology.

Saturday:

If my memory serves me correctly, Learning Secrets parties will always fill up by about 11:45 p.m. or so, so get there early if possible. I will probably/definitely be attending this baby, because I'm a big LS fan and who has ever had a bad time at one of these? RSVP by e-mailing the provided address.

If you refuse to go to Beauty Bar for any reason, you can always go to the reclaimed Black and Tan, which is now under the management of the very able-handed bartender Ryan (whose birthday was recently celebrated at the past Wild Life @ Parish). So, if you were ever once a Black and Tan goer, stop by and take a shot or something at the Fidget Disco party.

Was that too much text and not enough pretty pictures? Here's one just for you.

Just me and my girlfriend at that last Parish party. Rest are on Trevoray's web site but I'm sure you knew that.

LOVE,
TD

WHAT IS A FLASHLIGHT PARTY?

I still don't get it and I've been to them. Is it just a normal party? Do people even bring flashlights?

RNG DTHSTRR

Look, here's the flier for the tour kick-off show for Ringo Deathstarr. Looks like they'll be spreading their love all over the northeast. I may have to catch this, especially because tomorrow night a wave of relief will befall me once I am done with my exam. Excited?

ORION

I don't know if I agree with their use of the word "hipster" in their description of him. It's just kind of a weird glorification of the word. It's a really well-made video, though, I like the staged entrance into Creekside. It made me want to make an entrance like that someday before I die.

Find him: here.
Yes, I know this video has been posted a lot, but it's Tuesday. Enough said. But do make your way downtown, if you're not swamped with work like I am, to see R.Gear in all his glory (with a now-silver mohawk)

WL 2.0 PHOTOS

Instead of finishing my work, I feel like doing another one of those redundant photo updates. The good people of Peen Scene updated with another huge album, this time of Ryan's birthday slash the second ever Wild Life. Hopefully, Ryan had a fun birthday. Parish was pretty packed, which means a big turn out, and there was a blogger throw down - not that I got to witness it. There was probably also the most Austin DJs on one stage at one time that I'd ever seen.

Here are some of my favorites:

The rest are here.

FIRST SXSW POST

I've gotten a lot (well, a few) comments and e-mails about this upcoming SXSW -- parties, shows, any information really. And I have been probably the least helpful person ever. I have been meaning to do some of my own research and planning, but I haven't. I've heard of a couple of things of course but have yet to post anything thus far.

So, I'm going to begin today, though I have much more important work to be doing at the moment. I'll start a separate "label" for SXSW posts that you should be able to access in my aesthetically pleasing "label cloud" on the right panel.

To the important information: I have been informed by Richard.Gear of a pretty badass sounding show that will be happening the latter dates of the festival.

This seems like a predominately electro-dance-disco DJ party. I am, of course, not familiar with all of the talent, but of the listed -- The Twelves, Designer Drugs, Kill the Noise, Le Castle Vania, Steedlord, Ocelot, Treasure Fingers, Vega, Richard Gear, Juiceboxxx, Miami Horror, etc. etc. are all good. The full list is here. You can also RSVP for the event on the Web site. 21+

I have seen most of those that I listed (which explains why I am familiar with them, because I'm not the best at keeping up with the music-times). If anybody remembers the Designer Drugs tank incident, or my love for Vega's music, or the dismally small Kill The Noise Dallas show, and other various things I have posted about.

I have a feeling that is going to be a ridiculous party. Well, there you go. My first SX post, with probably a lot more to come. By the way, if you have any further inquiries about anything leave a comment, ask for my e-mail, whatever, and I'm usually good for the response. Also, am considering hosting a party or after-party. Maybe. Only if somebody else wants to join me in my endeavors.

¿Dónde está?

I don't know what this is exactly but it appears to be a new music venue/club that is opening up in Austin. Has anyone else heard about it? Apparently it is 4640 sq. ft. of indoor space and 10 acres of outdoor. But where is it?

CRAFTS & FASHION

So, I'm always glad when I'm able to find things to do here that go beyond the scope of the typical -- or at least what's expected. Don't know if that made any sense or sounded offensive toward any particular persons. Anyway, I'm just trying to say I found some things to do this weekend in the arts and crafts and fashion and hair realm. First is something ASW informed me on.

Saturday. I think that's cute; it takes me back to elementary school. I just imagine a bunch of adults and otherwise coming in and gluing buttons to T-shirts, though I am sure it is much more sophisticated than that. It's just a cute image.

Here is something I found through fliers around the Drag - though I feel they are not doing so well advertising online.

Click for a higher resolution.
This seems like it'll be a pretty good fashion event. Express and Visible Changes, so nothing couture but I'm sure it'll be visually stimulating. Sunday.
Web site for show.

losing steam/MARDI GRAS WKND

I'm totally losing steam on this looking for things to do thing. Sometimes, I just like to wait for things to come to me and go with whatever other people do. Alas, I stuck myself with this job, so I will diligently do my "job" as expected with few complaints.

Anyway, last night was enough fun for me for a while, but I suppose the weekend must be savored. Lykke Li was cuter/more perfect than I could have ever imagined, Wild Life 2 went well - a lot of people showed and Ryan, I take it, had an awesome birthday. That was a good Thursday night for Austin. By the way Trevor Ray put up the photos from The Parish already if you'd like to go check those out. On with the weekend.
FRIDAY:

I want to say my friend told me his band is also playing there tonight. I might be making that up.

SATURDAY:

Here is a 5 minute promotional mix that Go Go Garcia made for the Sandwiches party. Ought to give you an idea of what to expect of the party besides the possibility of free sandwiches -- which is what I've been assuming about the party this entire time.
Download/Listen here.

(I believe Wax Lounge is in San Antonio, but in case you're in the area)

SUNDAY:

Finally, something Mardi Gras related. I don't think I've celebrated Mardi Gras in my life except maybe being given some beads at some point sans flashing. Either way, it seems like if you're going to Mardi Gras it up, this is probably the right (only) way to do it.

BEST DAY EVER

Trust me. Here is how it's going to go down, no arguments.

1. See Lykke Li (which I have discovered is pronounced more like lük-eh lih or the y part like "Like [ɪ], but with the lips rounded as for [ʊ]," according to Wikipedia.) play an in-store at Waterloo Records 5 p.m.

2. See her play at Antone's at approximately 8 p.m.
3. Afterward, head over to "Wild Life" at The Parish to help celebrate bartender Ryan's Birthday.

Let's hope these plans go swimmingly. Who else is going to do what I'm doing? Trust me, it's going to be legendary.

im good im gone - lykke li

Enjoy,

LACK OF

Whenever I'm at a lack of shit to post, usually I revert to a music video or something else visually appealing. A post just to post, really. Well, I'm kind of winging this post, so we'll see.

Okay, I guess I'll post some photos from Peen Scene's latest update from Valentine's day. I hope everybody had a good one, coupled off or not. Moping about being single on Valentine's day is a definite Don't.

The last is from Plush, while the rest are from Beauty Bar. I didn't go to Plush, but Beauty Bar was packed and pretty fun.

Eh, that's all for now. See ya'll on Thursday,

NO,

I'm not going out tonight, but if you are aching to - go here. I don't know anything about Broken Spindles, or music, or much of anything actually, but it's been approved by two trust-worthy sources. Just passing along a message.

I'll rejoin society on Thursday, or possibly Wednesday.
Till then,

I'M GOOD; I'M GONE

I hope those of you who actually go to the blog, and not just Google Reader it, have noticed the little change I made on the right. Label clouds shouldn't only be for Wordpress or Typepad, or whoever has it. Thanks to my sister for showing me where to find the HTML.

Who cares? Anyways, Thursday at Antone's is going to be legen-dary. Lykke Li is so adorable. I'm excited to see what she looks like in person and if her mannerisms are as cute as they seem. Got two tickets, what up. There'll be an in-store performance at Waterloo at 5 p.m. before the show as well. And afterward, everyone who goes to the concert should definitely head over to The Parish to celebrate Ryan (nicest bartender ever)'s birthday.

Tickets are sold out!

THE EVERLASTING GODSTOPPER

So, I've become concerned as to what people think this blog is all about. Well, I'm not entirely too sure as to what it is about myself. Recently, it was called a nightlife blog, which I am not too fond of. I mean, parties, DJs, dancing -- all good stuff, but I was hoping the scope of my "coverage" is a little broader. I suppose, I mean to say it is just supposed to be about things that I like, things I think people would like, things in Austin (and surrounding) that I hear about that I like, artstuffs, filmstuffs, musicstuffs, fashionstuffs, and the like. I'm sure that seems a little too broad, but we'll see.

Anyway, this is something I thought sounded like it'd be enlightening, or interesting at least:

Here's a little something written to describe Totally Wreck. "Austin-based art collective The Totally Wreck Production Institute continues to collaborate on cracking the cosmic egg with their new exhibition, The Everlasting Godstopper. The work focuses on the underlying framework of technological implication, pop culture mutation, iconic figures of unnatural symbolism, and gregarious personality. Using installation, new media, video, illustration, and photography, Totally Wreck sends you to a place lying somewhere in a multidimensional reality between science fiction and spirituality."

The gallery opening is tonight, but the show will be up till March 8. I am going to try to find time to drop by sometime.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

I don't know what people usually do on Valentine's day with their significant others, besides maybe dinner somewhere fancy and buy unnecessary things, but hopefully there's going to be stuff for people to do attached or otherwise. Personally, I think the Car Stereo (Wars) shindig at Beauty Bar sounds cute. I don't think I've ever seen a real life kissing booth.

The latter two cost money, but don't sound shabby. Kissing booth also at the Moose Lodge. I wonder if people should be able to preview the looks of each booth before deciding on what they'd like to do that night. Maybe that'd be sad. Either way, being single on V-day is NOT a big deal, so nobody freak out.

P.S. So, the Peen Scene does this better than I do.

13.

It's kind of weird that here's a Friday the 13th right before a Valentine's day. It's like negative vibes, then positive. I don't know if any of that actually matters, or anybody else is a little superstitious. But, here's what I'm probably going to end up doing. Well, I'll probably end up going to one or the other.

Click on the banner to go to the Falling Whistles website. This is something I actually care about. A benefit of going, also, is that after the $10 cover, I think there are complimentary drinks all night. Also, it is all ages.

For Dallasites:

Famousish and Vega at the Backyard Beach Bar.
