Monday night.

Cowabunga Babez are about to go on tour for a month, so catch them beforehand at The Grand Social Club and Billiards.

For tickets, visit TicketWeb. They'll be $10 online, probably more at the door. Local mash-up DJ seems to be playing a lot of stuff in town again. Didn't he move away? Is he back?

happy everything.

Hello all,

So, this is going to be extremely informal, not that everything else that I post is not. I just mean, by saying so, that I don't have much of a formula for this one rather than just being rambley, listing things off and speaking personally.

So, it's Black Friday officially. I am sure some nuts are waiting at WalMart, or Sears, or wherever already. I am tucked into bed at 'home' back in the DFW, tired from a day filled only with TV and food, nothing terribly exciting or horrid just relaxing. I hope everybody else had an extremely filling and satisfying Thanksgiving / Turkey / Tofurkey Day.

Busy as always, without much of a chance to update. However, lucky for me, it won't be like that for too much longer, though I will be in Taiwan -- pretty much as far away from the U.S. / Austin as I could possibly get. That should be amazing!

So, as for events (that I usually post much more diligently) -- I have been attempting to keep the calendar on the side of my site updated, especially when I don't have time for posts. Give that a look. There is some stuff going on tonight (Friday), so I hope those of you in Austin at the moment enjoy your Black Friday and don't spend all your dough shopping, which isn't such a bad thought right now.

I hope you guys - my invisible audience - haven't quit reading since I haven't updated in a week. I don't quite know what is expected of one who blogs. Hope to keep up better once the storm that is the end of a semester has passed.

Much love,
TD

P.S. I am thankful for everything, and my new scooter Baby.
+What are ya'll thankful for?

Tonight: Friendly Fires and The XX

Hello, hello. I hope you are all extremely excited about tonight's big Mohawk show featuring the Friendly Fires and the XX, who seem to be what the buzz is all about on the web lately. Unfortunately it is already sold out, but if you want to go -- I am sure there is a way (scalpers maybe?). This show is going to be especially exciting because the ladies at Prototype Vintage are helping throw it. They will have a Proto Proper booth, which I will be manning, so come by and visit me, buy a shirt, whatever. I'll be the one dancing with myself. Get excited.

Afterward, there is an official after-party featuring a Friendly Fires DJ set at Barcelona on 6th St. uLovei will also be DJing. All in all, it should be a night of general debauchery.

See you there.

UPDATE:
Evidently Friendly Fires will NOT be DJing the after-party at Barcelona, but they've got something else in store for you. Read what Miguel of uLovei has to tell us about this last-minute change.
Sorry to all those that were looking forward to the Friendly Fires Afterparty. Certain complications arose and it could not be done.

For tonight though, we have DEATHFACE, aka Johnny Love of international DJ Duo Gun's N Bombs. For those of you that remember last time he came to Austin, is was a non stop party. Expect the same tonight, with a darker touch!

Happy Birthday Shangri-La!

I posted this a little late, but it's not too late to go celebrate Shangri la's 1st birthday with her. Him? Either way, if you love this bar as much as I do, go, even though it's a little chilly.

Photos from Bollywood Night

All photos were taken by John Pesina for Infamous Austin and Austin Asian American Film Festival at Malverde. This was a fun party.

I won't lie, I am not a fan of this last picture. Not to say I don't adore the men in the photo, I just don't like that face. :(

Updates & tonight:

Alright, I really regret being so tardy with posting. I can't help it, too much going on in my life / in Austin all the time. Either way, I hope you guys don't get angry with me for not updating often enough. Last night was actually exceptional. I suppose I got the date wrong on my side-calendar, but I wish I had posted the Cinema 16 flier in a blog post before the night of the actual event. It was amazing -- silent films with live music scores by Sunset played over. The films were great. I suggest you delve deeper into this event and its makers who hail from Brooklyn.

Afterward, I headed over to Bollywood Night for AAAFF, which was great. My buddies DJ'ed South Asian music all night.

+ As for tonight,
ATX Converge seems like it will be amazing due to it's amazing musical line-up and sponsors (including Hornitos). I hope it's not too late to RSVP for $5 entrance -- if not it's still only 7.

ATX Converge 2009 will feature:

OUTSIDE STAGE:
11:00 - Moth!Fight!
10:00 - Black Cock
9:00 - Cowabunga Babez

INSIDE STAGE:
1:00 - La Guerrilla
12:00 - The White White Lights
10:30 - MISSIONS
9:30 - Butcher Bear and Charlie
8:30 - Capybara

UPSTAIRS:
DJs Hobo D + Orion

Also, check out the Asian American Film Festival Web page for what is going on with that tonight. So far, everything they have thrown has been ridiculously fun -- karaoke at Silhouette, Bollywood night..

Liquor review #2: Michael Collins whiskey

Albeit, I am not a real whiskey drinker, but I am about to 'review' some real whiskey. Instead of drinking it myself, I had a guest drink it. I would have tried to tough it out, but my body just does not react well to the drink. I have tried, and wouldn't mind being able to drink it and like it, but for some reason whiskey and I just do not agree. Either way, I wanted to give Michael Collins a fair chance, so I let J drink it instead.

Pictured is the original whiskey on ice (which has turned into water). Tough guy drink. I suppose I didn't have any Coca Cola or Ginger Ale or whatever else people like to mix with whiskey, but I know whiskey drinkers tend to like to drink theirs on the rocks or with water, which I have always found totally bizarre.

Either way, J said it had a sort of vanilla-y taste to it and rated it a 5/10. Maybe he is a harsh critic; I don't know. I'll never know until I force myself to grow accustomed to whiskey. Maybe I will get a second judge, because I kind of want to give this guy a better score.

By now, you all know it is Fun Fun Fun Fest, and I am about to head off the the Fashion Leak party to drink Platinum and hang with John Renaud. Then, later, I will be working the Prototype Vintage booth at the festival. Find me there and say "Hi." I will be the way over dressed one.

So, there is other stuff going on later tonight and tomorrow night. Again I am dishing this out in list form because of time restraints. I am surprised I am even getting to this now. Usually I would be opening up the store by now.

John Renaud: Behind the Scenes with Peaches

I am sure you guys have all been checking out the John Renaud feature video on Fashion Leak, an up-and-coming company that I am very proud to align myself with. The Fashion Leak family has been working extremely hard to bring you this exclusive content, and I am glad to be along for the ride. Our trip to Dallas to film our designer John Renaud with his celebrity client Peaches was a success, and I thought I would share some behind the scenes looks with you guys.

Peaches and her band were very down to earth, as expected. John, being the charming man that he is, was also very accommodating. I was happy to give a couple of them their first taste of queso - a favorite Texas pasttime, but I suppose totally foreign to others.

*A special thank you to everybody involved: John, Peaches and company, uLovei, Margarita Ranch queso and of course Fashion Leak. See you all at the video launch party at Buy Definition (3100 S. Congress)!

Including [but not limited to]:
+ complimentary Platinum Liqueur Vodka drinks
+ goodie bags from Buy Definition
+ photos by John Pesina
+ attendance of up-and-coming designers John Renaud, I Love Factory, and Boudoir Queen
+ video screening of all feature Fashion Leak videos
+ pieces for display or sale by each designer
+ musical accompaniment of Monster Girl
