A little late.

Low Line Caller and The Great Nostalgic are playing Scoot Inn tonight. 21+, $5.

For non-21, there is a Lamar Pedestrian Bridge party celebrating BB's birthday.

Where are they going?

Thursday's events

So, still no internet, sorry for the lull. However, here is what I have compiled for tonight. I don't know if the Austinist boat party is still selling tickets, but that sounds like it'd be a lot of fun. There is more information to be learned through their site. I wish I had heard about it earlier -- it's way too hard to be plugged in sans internet, so I have learned. L.A.X. is playing with Thunderheist at Emo's though, which I have heard a lot of buzz about lately. I am pretty sure that will be a legit show. More updates later.

[Update: Tickets to the boat party are no longer available.]

Go to Beauty Bar tonight.

Scott Jawson is putting on another show at the Beauty Bar, this time featuring Anavan, supported by Harlovve and DJs Parson and John Gomi. I suggest you go out to this show to check out the bands. Anavan is an electro girl-fronted band from L.A., while Harlovve is local. Worth the small cost of $5.

Finally,

I am kind of able to post - not that this moving process is over or anything.

Anyway, in efforts to try to get back in the swing of things, I suppose I will post things to do tonight that tickle my fancy. Sorry about not posting this weekend (though I am certain you managed), but it was nearly impossible for me to. I was made aware that the Cherry Peel big bash was last night, as well as a few worthy shows. Sorry if you guys missed out, so did I. Not to fret, there is plenty going on tonight.

At the bottom, I believe that says show starts at 7 and $8 for 21 + and $10 for under.

CRAZY

So, I have been moving and unpacking lately. I don't have internet; right now, I am piggybacking it off of the university. Anyhow, this has to be short because it likes to cut out, but I thought I would just put up a brief update.

1. There is stuff going on -- go to another site (listed on my side blog roll thing) for more information.
2. Alan and his band (Neon Indian / Vega) has been robbed of a great deal of expensive equipment. Anybody with any information contact them. More information at their blog.
3. Okay, back to unpacking.

EAR PWR

is coming to Austin, Emo's to be specific.

Watch this video by uLOVEi, which is very explanatory of what this band is all about. Speaking of which, the team at uLOVEi has been busy busy making videos for you all to drool over. I honestly haven't been able to keep up, but you should check their newly spiffed Web site for all of their updates. So fresh and so clean.

Vega tour

I doubt anybody from the west coast would be reading this blog, but local artist Vega is going to be touring around those parts. Any interested parties should definitely attend a show. Look at my VEGA posts for songs and older news about the band. Can I also just point out how awesome this flier is. I don't think this was a photo the band shot (that I know of) but if they did, I would want them to introduce me to this girl; she's adorable.

Please

my birthday is coming up,
who wants to help me throw a shindig?

Scattered

Catch L.A.X. at The Independent.

This seems like it'll be a lot of fun. Boudoir Queen said she will definitely be attending "in full regalia."

Okay, beware. I am warning you now.

This one hurts my brain to look at a little bit.

I feel like this one is going to be like a crazy, crowded SXSW DJ party, which in most cases is not a bad thing at all. In this case, it is not necessarily, but being swamped with packing and stuff, I don't want any hassle.

Keep on keepin' on.

Just realized how weird the word "keep" is.

So, I have been taking this sabbatical - from posting, being out. Not sure if anybody has noticed. Either way, it will probably continue on a little considering it's moving week (or however long moving normally takes + a little, due to my enormous amounts of clothing and shit I have amassed). Not excited. Anyway, I have some stuff on the way that will be. You'll see. Just some ideas and things I have been brainstorming for quite a while now that had yet to come into fruition but will eventually. Promise.

Here's some stuff tonight:

There's kind of a lot of stuff going on tomorrow, too. Will try to post.
Have a nice weekend.

Feels like Sunday

Maybe because I didn't make it to class, or because I have yet to feel the impending doom of moving, final papers and furniture shopping that comes with the weekdays. Anyway, it's Monday, which means it's Love and a 45 night at Rio Rita. Maybe it means other things, too, but I can't recall. So Country Night at RR is over, but there is now one at Longbranch? I don't know if my information is correct.

Here are some events I am sort of looking forward to in the not-so-immediate future that I thought I should blog about before I forget. May not make it to the latter due to aforementioned moving.

Rainy Daze

I can't care about the rain, because I have mandated that today is going to be awesome for a couple of reasons. First of all, I woke up at 4 p.m. (damn). Second of all, it is the Second Sunday Sockhop at Shangri La -- which I still want to go to despite the humidity that I am sure will follow this drizzle. I am sure the dampness will have dried by then, though, and it doesn't seem like it's going to rain again. What bizarre weather patterns. Third of all, I began my day with delicious dim sum that I did not have to wake up early for at Get Sum Dim Sum (44th and Lamar). It's amazing -- I suggest everybody try it. It's really cute and contemporary, and it is kind of in the same vein as Maki, in the sense that it's a modernization of asian food. There are no carts at this restaurant.

Left: Pork Siu Mai, Right: Turnip Cake "Law Bak Gao"
(Photos by Carol L. from Yelp)

I think that turnip cake is pronounced in Cantonese there, because it definitely doesn't read how you pronounce it in mandarin, or maybe that is just bad Romanization.

Lastly, I am going to lay in bed and watch a movie. Adios.
Have a good one.

SAMANTHA A!

I will e-mail you and Christina to put you on the list. Have fun tonight.

+ Also tonight:

+ And an old Texan top 10 blog list featuring myself that I just discovered.

KVRX Ticket Giveaway!

Okay, so this is the first time I have ever done this, so I hope it isn't a total failure. So, I hope you are all aware that KVRX is throwing a little summer bash at the United States Arts Authority, a la Fruth St by Spiderhouse.

Anyhow, I have 2 spots on their list to give away to one reader. I played with the idea of doing 2 different readers, one spot each, but decided that this was the best option.

So, anybody interested in seeing some good local bands this Saturday for free need apply -- also, anybody who was planning on going anyway and would like to opt out of cover charges. I honestly know how it is to not want to even pay a small cover charge (mostly because I never carry cash, I am not claiming bankrupcy).

Rules:
1. Anybody can enter.
2. Leave your first name and last initial and an e-mail address.
3. Just leave that in one comment and I will pick one at random.

I should have all entries by noon Saturday -- day of the concert -- and will announce the winner at that point, and e-mail them for safety. You'll be put on the list by nighttime. Thanks Christina for this great offer.

I hope more than 1 person enters. Well, either way, the less people who enter, the better chacne you have. Good luck!

NIGHTTIMING

for tonight

+ You can catch local act Paul Banks and the Carousels (not to be mistaken for lead singer of Interpol Paul Banks) at Momo's on W. 6th. Get there at 7 or 8 p.m. and bring $8. I will probably be doing a little featurette on these guys soon.

for tomorrow
Don't forget to enter the raffle for 2 spots on KVRX Summer Special's list, where you can see these guys:

Thursday: Factory Party

I love this era. And Andy. And Edie. And The Factory. I wonder what this will be like. I am not seeing any information about prices. However, the Mohawk site says they are only selling tickets at the door, which leads me to believe there is a cover. I'd guess $5.

To be Andy, all you really need are wayfarers, black skinny jeans, and a back shirt or a black and white striped one. To be Edie, you need chandelier earrings, a mod styled dress, and black tights. I don't care how anybody feels about this; I bet it will be a lot of fun.

Also tonight is

now at Beauty Bar,
and the weeklies -- Huge at Plush (7th&Trinity) and Wild Life at Barcelona (6th)

Happening tonight - Monday

I am honestly not familiar with this band, or Tuh-ne & Gnaws, but I know who Richard Henry is. Neither the flier nor the Facebook invite have a price on it, so maybe it is free? But it is Mohawk, so maybe it costs $5 - 8 -- I am not sure. Facebook also says there will be "many free giveaways." Sweet.

Do you find knock-offs overly annoying or acceptable because they are only $17? My usual mindset is the latter. However, after my Room Service purchases today, I may be on a spending ban. Bought: vintage tin can for sewing materials, salt and pepper shakers and navy soft leather gloves for wintertime.

Prince v. MJ

I think it is obvious that MJ would win in this battle. Did you know this show was planned before MJ died and they were going to announce it on the day he died? That's rough. RSVP is now closed, and it costs $5 at the door instead.

There is also a little secret show featuring Belaire. Find it if you are a fan.
