Tonight.
Brion just told me about it, don't know if it'll be good yet. It's BYOB and he should be DJing under the usual pseudonym - B-The-Beat. West Campus? 22 & Leon. Some girls named Stephanie and Andrea live there. So if you know a Stephanie and Andrea, plus it's Andrea's B-day, go there.
By policy, I don't normally go to WC parties, but we'll see.

I'M GETTING LAZY,
So here's all I've got for you. Go to Black and Tan to see Richard Gear, because he's awesome. Or, go to the Creekside Live Dance Off brought to you by We Are High Society -- there will be cash money for the last dancer standing.

VEGA IN OKLAHOMA
Austin's very own Vega is going to be playing in Norman, Oklahoma tonight. Of course, that is of no concern to most of us here in Texas, but for those of you who may be in our northern neighboring state, don't miss out on this:

All Too Vivid - Vega (Kill the Noise RMX)

B&T: WEEKEND
So, it seems Black and Tan has it's weekend filled up with some familiar weeklies and a new monthly. First on Thursday (tonight),

Then,

&

Obviously Richard Gear is one of my favorite DJs, so that's that. Culnsweet's new monthly may be overshadowed by the Learning Secret's 5 Year Anniversary, which I am without question going to. Hercules and Love Affair, need I say more?

BIKES AND BIKES AND BIKES

This is for all the bicyclephiles out there. There are enough of them in Austin who'd want to go to this premiere of Macaframa at the Angelika in Dallas, I'm sure, especially with the free admission.

WISH: CHEAT SHEET

THURSDAY: Wish, that cute fashion boutique on Guadalupe, is having a 25% off storewide sale -- excluding Sale items, which have been marked down to $19.99! Tummy Toast will be DJing from 2-6, but I believe the sale is all day.

FREEZING COLD
I don't know how many of you can brave the ice cold weather, but if you can, go to Sounds Fun for Richard.Gear and cheap drinks, tonight. I heard that B&T was going to start making "ladies nights" and making it 18+ for girls and 21+ for guys. Is that true? I don't really know what is going on.
EDIT:: Turns out that 18+ thing is not true, although I am still entirely unsure of how they are with age at the moment. Last few things have been 18+, though I think they have been transforming into a strictly 21+ bar.

WHAT ELSE IS THERE?
The weather outside is so gloomy. I thought the mood of today is quite brilliantly captured in an old favorite music video of mine, Royksopp's What Else is There? featuring the vocalist of The Knife.
Also, people should leave more comments so I know they are reading. I'd like to know who's coming and going.

LAST-MIN POST

Courtesy of Austin Eavesdropper and a friend who is a fan of Ume. I am not always up-to-date on the live music happenings, because I'm not a huge concert-goer myself. But, if you are a fan of any of the above artists, definitely go out and support them tonight. I, myself, will be going to the Famousish event to see Hostage and Oh Snap! play. Gotta love those Famousish parties.

LAMBERT'S TONIGHT
As promised, I am back to post this flier for something going on tonight at Lambert's that looks worthy, found from the good people from Party Ends. Hmm.. "a health scare nearly took our brother, now we help him get back on track." I wonder what that means, rehabilitation? Not sure.

[edit] I retract the earlier guess/assumption. Apparently, he suddenly went into cardiac arrest and is usually a quite healthy guy. I suppose the money would be going toward his health costs.

1ST WEEKEND
To be quite honest, I haven't been dubiously searching the internet for something to do this weekend. Thus, I will half-ass this post and tell you what I am considering doing -- and you can make what you want of it. If I do, however, find something worthy of mentioning, I will at a later time.
So far, the best thing I've been informed about is Le Garage Sale, which both East Austinites and That Austin Girl (new blog name: Austin Eavesdropper) have posted about. Here are the details:

January 24th - 25th, 2009
PALMER EVENTS CENTER
Saturday: 11am - 6pm
Sunday: 11am - 5pm
Admission: $10/person*
2-day pass available: $15/person
CASH ONLY
* admission good all day for that day only
* no change rooms available
more details...
And on Saturday:
My friends at The Famousish are putting on hopefully another great event. Last saturday was crazy, so hopefully this one follows suit.

I'm going to need luck finding something to do tonight, seems like there are no good options at the moment.

SCREWSTON
Do people still call it that?
I don't usually report on Houston happenings, but I did sort of recently... so if any Houstonites are reading, here are two events in the next couple of days. Friends of mine are DJing at both, so looks like even you can party with Austin. That was cheesy.

COMPUTER LOVE
Tonight at Black and Tan is Computer Love, with DJs Frenchroast and Bigface. If you're going to the Scion Event, you can also go to B&T and show the bartender your wristband for $1 off of your drinks all night, meaning $2.50 wells.
For you, a Kraftwerk - Computer Love remix with a sort of cheaply made video. Not bad.

Tonight at DeVille

If you can go out tonight, this seems like it would be worth hustling downtown for. It says on that Facebook invite that it's Ringo Deathstarr's "last show," which I can't tell is a joke or not, but be safe and be there, I guess.

WED: Moxie & Jewell

Found this flier on Austin Style Watch blog. I personally don't know anything about Jewell, but the cocktails, hors d'oevres and DJs appeal to me enough.
Also: Moxie and the Compound, the cute little fashion boutique on S. Lamar by Bird's Barbershop, has come under new management and is having a sort of re-re-opening in celebration. Rare Magazine's Matt Swinney purchased the boutique, and according to Austin Style Watch blog will be renaming it Moxie Austin Designer Co-op. Everything in the store is still going to be made by local Austin designers.
EVENT TITLE: Moxie Re-Re-Grand Opening
DATE: Wednesday, January 21, 2009 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm
LOCATION: Moxie; 2110 South Lamar, 78704
There will be Tito's vodka and apparently, 15% off of everything in the store. No need to RSVP.

Satin Sheet Vol. 1 - DJ Sober
SOBER of The Party/Central Booking sent me this musical gem today. He told me about it a while ago; it seemed to be his passion project (pun inadvertently intended). It's a pretty smooth collection of R&B and Soul, as far as my un-musically-inclined ear can tell. The idea behind the mix is as I titled the post. As soon as he posted the mix on his own site, saying he uses the songs to "warm up his Dj nights and his bedroom" it immediately reminded me of the old Lovage album.

[click on that for a little treat]
Really enjoy these albums now,
;) TD
P.S. The Party boys are DJing this Thursday for a John Legend after-party in Dallas hosted by John Legend himself. I am so impressed! Go to Sober's Myspace for more information: LINK

Inauguration Party-time

Limited Disco Edition is also among us tonight. Ian Orth and Richard Gear are two of my favorite bloggers and DJs, so it's nice that the weekly S!F! and the Disco night ended up on the same night as inauguration.

COBRA KRAMES PEEN
Yeah, I know, I'm a child.
Last night was by far one of the most ridiculous nights in a while. Anyway, here are the Peen Scene's photos from Black and Tan and the afterparty at the Music Gym. Check it out:

Can someone tell me why the Music Gym makes everyone go ape shit?

Couldn't say it better,
than the Famousish's numerous posts to Myspace, so I just decided to do a bit of copy/pasting -- which I normally do not do.
These following reasons are why, if you should be going out tonight, your ass should end up at Black and Tan for Cobra Krames and company:

KING LOUIE
Having shared bills with the likes of JUSTICE & CROOKERS, and played the world famous Cinespace Tuesdays, your favorite mexican DJ starts things off in full bass fashion.

The weekend before hell:
School is returning, along with that more restrictive schedule. Therefore, this weekend ought to be a blowout weekend. A substantial amount of events are happening. Let's see.
FRIDAY:

- You know I support Coldtowne Theater events. Terp 2 It is Chris Trew's "nerdcore rap" (Party Ends).

- Same DJs, same weekly coming back, it looks like.

I missed out on the Black and White party a week ago, but here's another opportunity to party in one of Austin's greatest lofts. James Allen is putting on a neon dance party at the 601 Brushy loft. To see photos from his last party, go to Flampy.net.
SATURDAY:

- The Party's DJ Select comes to Austin from Dallas.

- Alright, this one in particular I am pushing. First of all, I think it's the best option for Saturday. Second of all, it's Cobra Krames who I caught last time at the Scion party at Beauty Bar, and he's a big deal. Also, the only way to get into the afterparty (and everybody loves a good afterparty) at the Music Gym with special guest Plus Move*. Third of all, it's a Famousish event and everybody knows they throw some of the best parties in the city.
ESPECIALLY:

The new Corey Micheal Salon on 5th and San Jacinto (downtown) is finally having their grand opening party. There's going to be free alcohol and it's before any other events really start, so be there. It's worth it.
And if you want to actually get your hair done, here's a little way to get a discount. Just mention the ad.

That's it. I'll probably reupdate to reiterate everything important, because of the clutter that this post appears to be. See you this weekend,
Tiffany Diane
