Look

This is a pretty cool video flier. There is a show at the Parlor tonight. I have never been, but it is off of North Loop. Here is more information on the location. It seems pretty cool; I say this mainly because they have food and drinks.

Besides this I know High Society is putting on their "8th grade dance" themed party at Beauty Bar as well. So, if you are itching to go out this Sunday - there you go, options.

Am about to post about Rare June '09 issue.

Hard Times

So apparently in my time away from Austin a lot has happened. I kept on reading strange tweets last night about gunshots in front of Spiro's and Plush and didn't really confirm what happened until this morning. Another person's post also said that there was a big fight outside of Beauty Bar where somebody got tazed? What on earth was going on last night? Here is a full article about the Spiro's incident. Luckily, it looks like there were no fatal injuries, but it is seriously unfortunate that anything like that happened at all. I've always seen Austin as a safer place.

Tonight:
Misprint Magazine issue release happy hour at the Mohawk from 5 - around 8. (The issue is supposed to be recession themed, go figure, and contain probably way too many economy jokes. Will they ever get old? Probably.)

Then, The Juan Maclean at the same location.

You can win free tickets to the Juan Maclean show on Austinist. The tickets are $10 advance and $12 at the door. I figure the processing fee will pretty much cancel out any benefit of buying advance. At least in my experience that is usually how things end up.

Sabbatical

I am currently in the DFW area.
I hope you enjoyed my funsaver photos,
(I know I take a lot of photos of food and cats, two favorite things).
I am taking a little break till I get back -Friday.
Friday is the Learning Secrets Juan Maclean show at the Mohawk.
I will probably be going to that.
Also, on Friday is Misprint Magazine's happy hour at Mohawk.
I'll try to make it there, of course.
It all depends on that Dallas - Austin traffic.
Go to Mohawk all day.

I know that this "sabbatical" is only really a day or two long,
but trust me, that is considered a break.
I usually blog everyday - once or twice. Ha.
Gotta jet. TTYL, loves.

Mi Vida pt.1

Things I have fun-saved
over the past week, or maybe couple of weeks. I have been posting too many fliers lately. Well, maybe that is all anybody even reads my blog for, but I felt like injecting some of my own personal life in here (as I often do). Let me know how you feel about that. Anyway, here is what life has been about for me so far this summer.

Included: matching shirt boys, crepe dinner party, lounging by the pool with a million cats, Side Bar one night, Shangri La, Red House Pizzeria, and more.

Sunday Party

@ Malverde, above the La Condesa off Guadalupe and 2nd.
I haven't been yet, but I will say it looks ritzy.

Now, THAT is a good flier. Kudos to whoever did the artwork for it.

Co-op?

Looks like a friend of mine will be DJing this Co-op party tonight. If you are interested in Co-oping it up, you ought to go and support him.

MLIA

Just a small compilation. Keeping it simple. Kind of a lack this weekend, in my opinion. Happy Graduation to those of you who did so this weekend.

Tonight:

& Stereo Is A Lie, Motel Aviv and Colour Wheel at Beauty Bar

Saturday:

& Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos are playing at the Mohawk

Scion House Party RSVP

Don't forget that this is tomorrow and you've got to RSVP to it. I am not familiar with them, as always, but I hear they are good.

RSVP HERE

Also on Thursday,

Wild Life with A.Ward, Richard Gear and Joshua Distance. I have been informed that regardless of how I feel about that location (Barcelona), the Thursday nights with these guys is enjoyable. Because I love Davey, I relay this information to you guys.

Summer Kickoff

I was just at a "pool party" tonight, and decided to write about it at this hour because that's the kind of person I am, and it suddenly dawned on me that it's officially my summer. I am finished with school, not that I am* not doing more in the summer. I guess it is officially the season for boat parties (please), pool parties, bathing suits, sunglasses, getting tanner (dang) and short shorts. I think I'm ready. This may change once it becomes over 100 degrees, humid and I start to attract mosquitoes.

Anyway, it was a strange night that involved driving a lot further than usual, a pool, a game of chicken involving some Californians, bad jokes and a Wendy's chicken sandwich. Davey, though, reminded me of his Wednesday weekly at Lanai. I can imagine just chilling on that rooftop and drinking a cold margarita, which if I can recall correctly was insanely cheap there.

Seriously though, all I want to do is have a picnic or a pool party and fun-save** it all. I totally forgot to whip out the fun-saver earlier at the pool party. Now am regretting. Damn.

* The apostrophe/quotation mark key has officially broken off of my laptop keyboard and I am trying to avoid using that little rubber piece in its place. It is definitely falling off as well. Such is life.
** Thanks, A.Lane for that cute term.

GUNS N BOMBS

Hey you guys, don't forget to RSVP to Guns n Bombs tonight to get in free. Without, it's just $2, but I know some of you have got to be like me -- that's all I've got in my wallet.

I have never been to this venue, so perhaps I'll have to go check it out. I know there had been a scramble to find a new location after Canvas pulled out at the last minute, how inconvenient. Hope to see you all tonight!

Have you noticed?

Out With Me and Learning Secrets have both updated their Web sites.

I like that logo. Mini-Mitchell.

Ian did all the illustrations on the new LS site; I'm impressed.

Down the Rabbit Hole

So, did you see the new Bleach issue?

Last night was a hit. Creekside was packed; I'd like to say more packed than it usually is on a Friday night. Past and present Bleach editorial photos projected over the DJ booth outside, and all of the contributors were there.

Check it out now: Bleach Online Summer '09

Here's a little feel, I don't think this was in it but I love the photo.

Weekending

Tonight:
So, I'm only going to tell you to go to one thing tonight. There are other options, but my favorite by far is the adjoined Peligrosa and Bleach Online release party. The new issue ought to be out sometime tonight, so keep on checking back at Bleach Online. I'm excited to see it; the theme is "Down the Rabbit Hole," so I'm thinking a little trippy and macabre.

I can already tell it's going to be one of those nights. Legendary.

There are other possibly viable choices listed on The Peen Scene's blog, but I am simply suggesting what I will probably most enjoy (sorry to any DJ friends I may have upset by saying so).

Saturday:

Wasn't Felix Cartal just here?

LS @ Lanai

This time around, let's see a better turn out. I'll say this about last time: there's nothing wrong with the location, the club's layout is really cool and there's plenty of seating, the drinks are good and cheap. However, last time I'd like to think the regular crowd of black-cowboy-hat-wearing folks scared off all of Learning Secrets' friends. I am seeing 107 confirmed guests on the Facebook page, plenty of whom are my friends, so you better come if you did RSVP. We'll see about that.

In other news, it's that $5 pitcher (and not the kind you'd think) night at Shakespeare's again. It's hard times you guys; think about it.

Celebrating Bleach

Bleach's "Down the Rabbit Hole" issue is revealing itself on Friday, and in pre-celebration, there will be a pre-launch party on Wednesday. Also, the party will be thrown for Bleach's homegirl Michelle. Happy Birthday, girly.

The party will be at Back Alley Social. Forget what I said before about this place being a little weird -- just go.

What's your take on Glass Candy?

So The Decider had a bit of a scathing review for Saturday night's Glass Candy show. You can access that here, or click on the photo.
I find it strange that two dots were clearly photoshopped from Johnny's face. I talked to him and the FIVE dots signify his five ex-girlfriends he has accumulated throughout his life.

More exciting, though, is the photos Peen Scene posted of that long, crazy night. As you may or may not have read, I had a blast at Glass Candy. I even ended up being in the front of the audience dancing in my high heels, which is rare as I have become an old lady clutching her purse an standing away from the audience on the sidelines.

You can find their Glass Candy set here,
and their Barcelona after-hours party set here.

Note: Me being conceited, 5 dots, Ida's amazing wardrobe, Mattie getting on stage and sporting higher heels than most girls can handle and my friends from Dallas looking so good.

Also, they gave me permission to share with you guys some songs. Here are some favorites:

They're incredibly generous artists, offering free MP3 downloads and tossing out all that free merchandise. Read Ida No's interview with Bleach Online's past issue if you'd like to learn more about the band.

New ULOVEI Video

El G of ZZK Records Interview from uLOVEi on Vimeo.

This video makes me excited. Props to uLovei and everyone else to made it.

SSSH!

This month's falls on Mother's Day. I can't see my mother tonight, so someone else can be my mother tonight. I hope everyone tells the mommies in their lives how appreciated they are -- even though I don't get these holidays.

There's also this "Fuka Fashion Show" at Mohawk. I don't know all the deets but I have a flier and they're posted places. I am thinking it's a local Austin designers show. It may have a cover?

Chronicles of TD

TD sounds like some sort of disease -- maybe because of TB.

Anyhow. Yes, I understand it is approximately 4 a.m. and anybody who realizes the time and the day will think that I am cracked out typing this up and rambling, but I suppose anybody who knows me well enough will know that I just just a bored, strange insomniac. I decided since I am just sitting here alone in my room on a Saturday night (slash) Sunday morning, I am going to sort through this past week and weekend. Why? It'll amuse me for a some minutes before I pass out with this Lunchables cracker stacker on my bed. Also, this weekend I've met a couple of people who told me they actually enjoy reading my blog and have caught onto some of my strange persona via text. That's nice. Thank you guys.

Did anybody go to the events I listed for Cinco de Mayo? I was kind of sad I didn't at least go by and check it out. However, I had pizza at Jackalope and Shangri La and that was relaxing and nice.

I was upset to have missed out on margaritas that day. That was rectified Thursday though, at Red House Pizzeria, which I have dubbed #1 margaritas (until further notice). And, at $1 off during happy hour, it's unbeatable. Thursday night was good.

Tonight, well Saturday, with Glass Candy at The Mohawk was great. The band threw out free shirts, then free CDs, then free LPs. How nice is that? I actually watched the band and danced for the first time in probably far too long. Well, since Lykke Li perhaps. I believe this is the CD we had been handed, one from the Italians Do It Better label, which I talked about formerly when posting about Farah from Dallas. She's on the CD, too!

1. Glass Candy - Rolling Down The Hills
2. Chromatics - Hands In The Dark
3. Indeep - Last Nite A DJ Saved My Life (Mirage Remix)
4. Mirage - Lady Operator
5. Glass Candy - Computer Love
6. Professor Genius - La Grotta
7. Chromatics - Killing Spree
8. Farah - Law Of Life
9. Chromatics - In The City
10. Glass Candy - Miss Broadway
11. Mirage - Lake Of Dreams
12. Farah - Dancing Girls
13. Glass Candy - The Chameleon
14. Professor Genius - Pegaso

And these were the shirts they were throwing out:

All of this can also be purchased at the Italians Do It Better e-store.

Tonightttt

So, I hear Vega will be opening up for Glass Candy tonight at the Mohawk?

True/False?
Either way, we will see.

Edit:
I guess it did not happen? At least for as long as I was there.

Puke in my Mouth

In response to Lonely Island boys' "Jizz in my Pants." Not quite so brilliant, but a little amusing. Thanks Kristine.

Open my fridge and a fruit rolls out...

Fucking Fabulous

OutWithMe has updated his photo site. It's now in blog form! Also, photos from Brandon, Matt and Vanessa's birthday party last week at the Tiniest Bar in Texas have been posted. Look at them! (Yes, that is the hotdog I raved about. It was great and I am glad my hotdog bliss was captured and immortalized)
