Bleach DROP / FashionLeak

Dear Blog,

Sorry I have neglected you a little bit these past few days - I'll work on that. However, I have been working on a lot of other, exciting stuff. Hopefully you guys (the readers) got the memo from other numerous social networking sites and announcements, but if not, let me be the first to introduce you to a couple of awesome gems. First of all, there is Bleach Online DROP.

This is meant to be a bi-weekly (bi-monthly? Either way, it is coming out every other week) newsletter brought to you by Bleach Online about happenings in Austin, future issues and features, and other news in fashion, music and art. The newsletter will be in blog-form, which I am obviously a fan of. Check it out for yourself now. It is definitely worth "following."

Secondly, there is FashionLeak, which is finally officially launched, after a lot of hard work and brainstorming from the same minds behind Bleach Online. FashionLeak "was created as an introspective exposé on the most innovative designers working today." The Web site will feature 12 fashion designers in a year, showing an insight into their daily lives, inspirations, style via video and more. After this, there will be a three-day fashion event featuring all 12 designers.

Right now, the featured designer is Dawn Younger-Smith, otherwise known as the Boudoir Queen. Check out her video, made by the videographer of Etsy, it's pretty amazing. I love Younger-Smith's collection in her studio. I would like to amass something as meaningful as that someday. Check out her Web site and look for her shop, there are a couple items for sale.

So, after viewing Bleach DROP, you may or may not notice my little tidbit at the end. Not sure if it has been made obvious or not, but I recently began 'interning' for Bleach this summer. Since then, my job title has transformed to "Communications/Contributor." I am also now doing basically the same thing for FashionLeak. It's been a lot of fun working with these ladies. They have a lot in store for you.

+ Last night, I watched Monster Girl perform at the Flashback event. Unfortunately, not many people had shown up in time to catch her, but she was pretty amazing.
+ Also, discovered Framing Strangers, another talented local band.
+ Hope the event was enough to keep Flashback open.

Flashback Vintage: SOS

Finally, I am posting something that I have been meaning to post for a long time. Mainly, the issue was that the Web page for my class (that I had originally done this story for) was always glitchy, and I didn't want to put up this post without my work as a supplement.

Flashback Vintage is probably one of my, and perhaps one of Austin's, favorite vintage boutiques. Currently located off S. 1st Street, this business has been with the city for over two decades. Right now, because of the turbulent economy, the company is at risk of closing shop. Hopefully, this will not have to happen, with the help and support of Flashback's friends, family and appreciative shoppers.

Flashback is definitely a local business I would be sad to see go. Thus, I strongly suggest everybody attends this event the store's owner, Brandi Boyd, is putting on in efforts to save the store. There will be auctions, live music, drinks, fashion -- basically a lot of good stuff all in one place at the same time. Don't miss out. Check out the event on Spider House's page.

I don't even know who the guests TBA are, besides a hint that Monster Girl or The White White Lights may be. The staff of Flashback has been working extremely hard to pull themselves out of their financial rut, as well as put on this event. I think it'll be a lot of fun, let alone for a worthy cause. It starts early, so you have time later on in the night to do the downtown thing, if you'd like. I will definitely be there. Flashback and I fell in love sometime amidst my interviews and shooting photos.

I honestly don't know any details about this event. But you should go for the sake of going, or Low Line Caller, or being a G.O. fan. Do they mean this Alan Wolfe? I am so out of the loop.

Funsaver Series pt.3

These are delayed, but it's okay because they are still quite relevant to this summer. These probably are actually the most summer-y photos I have ever taken. Well, this is probably the most summer-y summer I have ever had. That makes sense. It may be the lack of vacationing, which has lead me to make myself go out and do other recreational activities. Not that a vacation wouldn't be ideal at the moment.

The Daily Texan article

Yeah, so I had spoken about having the photoshoot for the Daily Texan recently. Well, the article was front-page yesterday. I suppose if you can find yesterday's paper somewhere, you can see it in print, but you can obviously see it online much more easily. Here is the link to the article written by Leigh Patterson.

So, the RSVP thing doesn't seem to be working for this one. Don't know what to say about that, besides that Vega is great and this will probably be a good show.

So, this is what's up. The short of it is "a lot," but here's the whole story:

I mean, this Fashion Week stuff, I could know less about honestly. I just know that it was dreamed up and realized within two months by the guy who started Rare -- you can read an interview of him on Tolly's blog. Also, I know Amber Demure has a ton of information on what is free and what else is going on fashion-wise. Lots and lots.

I will try to be more timely with this information next time, considering some things that go on happen before 8 p.m. I'm a total slacker.

I have been pretty bad with the maintenance of this site. I will update more after I go to this castle party with all sorts of shit. Hope to see you there, I will be the one who is not the "most interesting man."
